Root Did Z4 Root work for you after 2.3.340 ?

I used the sil3ntki11 pc based root before 2.2.1, had deleted bloatware so i finally reinstalled the bloatware today to get the update, and rerooted with z4 using the battery pull method and confirmed root access in titanium and wireless tether. because it took me so long to get the bloatware back i dont know if that gave me a second update or what, also i didnt see the post about plugging the phone in after a minute or two instead of the battery pull or i would have tried that first.
 
Only took 3 tries with Z4 locking up after 15 minutes that i decided to do Visionary. Worked the first time
.340, with all the extras, rooted and no lost apps in the proccess!

Correct - this is how I did it
Just do the Format /system/, mount system, in the bootstrap before applying the Kernel update, im not sure if it helps but it cant hurt, since im hearing people are getting bootloops if they dont factory restore before..

This is good to know. I apparently keep usb debugging on all the time (not sure why I would turn it off.

But I had no info on the z4 app when I got it. Fortunately for me it worked first time with no issues.

You'll have to copy and paste your apps to the newest listing, at least I did the one time I SBF'ed. Once the copy and paste was done and I synced from the phone, all of my old apps showed up ready for me to install. Check it out.

with appbrain, I only have 1 device but a few rom changes ago I found that I had to keep and save a list inorder to get everyting back. it would always default to apps on device upon the first syn with appbrain. But if I recall up a previous list, and hit install and sync. They all come over again.

Wasn't able to rm SuperUser.apk kept saying it was read-only. I did make sure I had the bigger file Superuser.apk when I followed these instructions.

Ditto. Indeed, I used RSD Lite to sbf my phone when I couldn't get it to root again after the OTA update. Flashed to .320, then updated to .340 with TBH files, then rooted. Bingo!
 
Here's what worked for me (step-by-step)

I had 2.3.15 rooted with z4 and had bloatware frozen with titanium backup pro. Not sure if all this was necessary but did it just in case.

1. Used titanium backup pro to backup all my apps I cared about and unfroze the verizon installed bloatware, i.e. city id, kindle, amazon, etc. (just to be sure the update will see them and not fail)

2. I then ran Z4mod and un-rooted my x. This ran for a bit and then rebooted into the clockwork recovery mode. I chose the option to reboot my phone. (took approx 3 min)

3. Phone booted up and I opened z4mod and confirmed the phone was no longer rooted.

4. I then went to system settings>about phone>system updates and accepted to install the new 2.3.340 update. The phone instantly rebooted and began the update and rebooted. There was a message on the home screen stating the update was a success. (took approx 8-10min)

5. Opened Z4mod and chose the option first to temporarily root my phone just to see if it worked and not brick my phone. It took a very long time at the "trying/applying xploit" which is the first step. The screen didn't time out and I was beginning to wonder if the phone was locked up but the app has a progress circle that was still going so I waited. Upon completion it stated the temporary root was successful until next reboot. (approx 8-10min)

6. I then checked titanium backup and wifi tether and confirmed they could have root permissions.

7. I went back to Z4mod and then chose the option to permanently root my x. Same thing, took a really long time but rebooted into the clockwork recovery mode and I chose reboot and then confirmed root after the reboot. (8-10 minutes)
 
Worked fine for me. Rooted with super one click, accidentally installed the update the other day while driving, lost root. Just used Z4 and all seems good.
 
Z4 worked for me after update.

I was rooted using Z4 pre update, unrooted, upgraded, then rooted again.

No issues other then having to reinstall my bloatware before hand.

I just rooted my brand new Droid a few days ago, already on .340, with Z4, and I had nothing but problems: freezing, rebooting, slowness, etc. SBF'd back. Then I tried this method, but I can't even get past the second command, as it tells me "permission denied." Anyone else try this method and have this problem? I even tried Z4 again, temporary this time, and it froze after about eight minutes.
 
Got the update 2 days ago, failed to update till I replaced the bloatware. lost root. After playing with Z4root(1.3,1.2,1.1) for a day with no success, I verified that the superuser.apk was removed from /system/app, and then uninstalled the Busybox installer.apk. Now Z4root works fine.
 
worked perfect for me. I dove right in yesterday. Rooted and installed a custom rom and loveing it. I was scared at first but now so happy i did. All thanks to "Colchiro" thank you much!
 
I am running 2.3.340...after reading through this thread, I enabled USB debugging and downloaded Z4Root to my phone...opened the file and installed it...it ran for under a minute, restarted my phone and I was rooted...I thank all of you who posted here to help me out
 
Thanks for this thread. I had run z4 and was baffled when it hung up for what seemed like forever. Pulled the battery, tried again and it took less than a minute. Thanks for the help everyone.

I have been reading all through this forum following along... since it seems you have been having all the same problems i have been having. although you seem to have yours fixed... a couple days ago, my phone updated from 2.2 to 2.3.4. since the update my z4 has not worked!! i have tried about everything everyone has been saying with no results. i may not have followed unstructions perfectly but im trying.can someone help walk me through it.??
