Root Dirrk's D01 overclocking kernels with lagfix

so do all the DO2 kernels have voodoo with them? Would the more stable LV 1100 or the slightly stronger 1200LV Be the better bet? It seems that whichever your phone seems to take better is the one to go with ;)

also does sv show more stability overall than LV? I would also assume that battery life is much improved on the LV kernels over the SV?
Yes all D02 kernels are voodoo. No one can actually tell you which kernel is best for your individual phone. The little idiosyncrasies of these things mandates you try it for yourself. I love the 1200LV and trumpet its greatness but not everyone can run it they way I can. Others love the 1250LV which is not stable for me. Kinda gotta find your niche. In general more voltage is usually the answer for an unstable OC, so if 1200LV does not work try the 1200SV and so on

I have been running 1.25 LV voodoo lag fix since yesterday and so far my fascinate has been stable. Battery life has been better than average but i only have 4 screens and the brightness is minimal. The only issue i have noticed is that whenever i am scrolling down on app's reviews on the android market it usually stalls if i stop to read a few of them (but it could be my 3G reception.) i am also running autokiller. Maybe this weekend i will flash the 1.2 LV or 1.2 SV to see if there is any major difference. i would also like to thank all of the members of this community for your help (Saps, nitsuJ17, sirKronan)

Nice report. If you have stability with 1250LV you probably wont do better than that. Battery life will get better if you throttle down to a 12LV or 10LV but thats about it. In the end you find the best compromise. I would run 1250LV in a second if I could but alas I cannot

My Quadrant scores range between 2040-2120 with the 1.250LV. I think the implementation of autokiller plays a pivotal role in battery life. Oh by the way, manually reset it to 1.250 GHz under Set CPU every time you restart your fascinate and do not set on boot because it will create issues once it restarts (my screen got stuck after the samsung logo.) a battery pull should help. some people might not experience this issue but it happened to me while i was reading the forum in which members such as Saps and others warned me about. i will report sometime this weekend regarding the other kernels.

Good stuff Damon and yes Im not sure how much individual credit AutoKiller deserves for the battery boost but since SK mentioned it to me I've been running it and Im thinking it is helping at least a bit.
I still dont set on boot with the 1200LV even though I could; just playing it safe I suppose

Hey! That's why we're here!!

By the way, that day I ran testing on the LV 1100 it must have been a fluke. It's been getting heavy use since about 9:00 this morning, more than usual, and it still has 72% left. That's outstanding. I did some tethering, showed off some pictures of the new puppy, been on the phone several times, and done lots of texting.

By the way, here's the new puppy: (resized, taken with Fascinate)

I believe they have the voodoo & lagfix built in. After uninstalling the lagfix, restoring my phone, and doing a factory wipe, I rooted, applied the CWM, and installed one of the D02 kernels again. It did the strange voices, and worked on things for about 5 min. or so, then restarted. My phone was working fine. Felt smooth and didn't have any problems. It was rooted. I could run SetCPU and overclock. And SetCPU even had the right kernel information.

But every time I reset my phone (still testing boot animations, which all work great now, except the one I'm making that needs further tweaking .... ) I heard a strange female voice say either, "Data partition not found" or "Data partition wipe found ..." or something like that.

I didn't worry too much, though, because the phone was working fine. I ran a quadrant just to be sure and got a score in the 800's. Ugh. No lagfix. I flashed a different D02 kernel. Same result. Flashed another. Same result.

So I downloaded this handy utility:

[APP] Voodoo Toggle app and Reboot Util. - xda-developers

I dang near paid a buck for the one on the market, but I held off because of some mixed reviews, and because I thought I had read about a free one somewhere. Kudos to the creator, linked above. I ran the toggle, turned voodoo on, reset my phone, and hallelujah. I'm back in business.

I sit here now with 35% battery remaining, overclocked at 1100MHz, with the LV kernel. And I have given this phone VERY heavy use today.

WiFi Tethering (downloaded some video card driver's for a friend's PC and checked my email)
Nearly two hours of angry birds (siblings of some of the kids I'm worked with. Keeps them busy so we can work!)
Watching several Youtube videos
Looking stuff up on the web
Over 40 texts
Quite a few phone calls
Used the camera to take pictures and show off new puppy pictures
Downloaded several missing apps, since I've recently done a factory wipe
Played with wallpapers and settings a LOT

And here I sit with 35%, and not one lockup. My beautiful widgets is having issues since the latest update. The update before this one made it look better, resize better in launcher pro, and run faster. This latest update made it a piece of CRAP. It doesn't resize right. It doesn't work, except sometimes. Keeps spouting out google location errors, etc. Seems completely unrelated to the kernel though. Everything else is just amazing, fast, beautiful, and efficient.

Anyone else having problems with Beautiful Widgets lately??? Could it have something to do with the Fascinate OTA update? That update has been out for a while.

Wow, speaking as non-animal lover, that is too cute

Haha. Thanks! She is way cute, and what a great personality. I have always been a little fond of pugs, and my wife really really likes them, so she should be a good fit. Only one accident in the first week so far. That's really good for a six week old pug!! Hope she keeps up the good work.

beautiful widgets always seems to have issues like very 2 weeks with weather updates. I toggle between accuweather and google if one isnt updating correctly and "usually" that helps. Sometimes it ll just suck for a few days and ill use fancy widget or weather/toggle.

Wow. It's happy again. No more errors. And now it's resized properly. How bizarre ...

Still having exceptional results with the LV 1100 so far.

.

Yes on my X I got the same issues. It would tell me it received bad location data (or something like that) which was odd since it had my location and every other GPS related app worked just fine. It also doesn't always update.
It seems to have stopped lately, not sure why.

OK so I'm new here so what kernel should I flash?

I used D02-Kernel-LV-1200.zip voodoo lagfix but now my boot animations are gone, I thought i selected the one that allowed animations. Anyone know how to bring the animations back?

you can pick on that you want from here or xda or wheverer (anything that works on the dx, nexus 1, incredible SHOULD be ok) and drop it on your sdcard. using root explorer copy it to data/local or system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip (if theres already one named that rename the existing one to bootanimation.bak)

If the D02 LV 1200 is too much, I'd give the D02 LV 1100 a try. I'm having great luck with it so far, two days running.

im jealous of the lv crew out there  i wish my fascinate could handle it.

battery life is great for me with sv, but still it d be cool to take full advantage of it. I can *mostly* get the 1000lv run but maybe every fews hours it wont wake up and thats a no-go.

Oh well, cant win em all

Since i have been in the hospital i have not been able to test the other the other fixes but here are some tests on the 1.250LV lag fix:
Please note that i only have around 60 of my own apps installed, verizon's bloat-ware remove, TW launcher, 4 screens with no widgets, and autokiller set at extreme (150, 160, 170.)
Quadrant scores: 2040-2160
linpack: 10.516(first time)
Speed Pi: 512 first time 503 second time.
SET CPU tests:
short bench: 174
long bench: 571
native bench: C:632.012207ms
NEON:254.419189ms.
So far it has been stable no FC, i have a few questions regarding SET CPU:
1- I am pretty sure that once i installed the 1.250 LV i (or my friend that helped me flash Dirks lag fix) made a mistake of setting a profile on boot with notification, Charging/full 1250 max, 100 min, priority: 50 conservative. Is this going to be a problem in the near future?
2- Every time i restart the phone, the max is at 1250 and the min at 100 but when i placed a widget on the main screen to confirm it said 800 max and 100 min. My next step is to fiddle with it and place it on 1250 and press menu to auto detect. under info on SET CPU it says that my phone is in 1250: 45396 and at 800:113383
3- Setting autokiller to such high standards will kill SET CPU, hope not. I emailed the dev and he suggested that i place my preference in aggresive and alternate screen off to ultimate (200 range) for great battery life.
4- By the end of the day around 11pm my Quadrant benchmark scores tend to oscillate between 1787-1971. is there something wrong?
5- my battery life has been decent ( my reception is good 3 to 4 bars and is at 86 dmb)i unplug it at 9:15 am around 50 texts, check emails manually every hour since its off, talked on the phone for 18 min, surf the web for 7 min, look around marketplace for 5 min and my battery is at 79% around 4:55pm.

sorry for the long rant but i have been in the hospital and i need my fascinate to be fast while having a better than average battery life. thank you and i am sorry again for the long message

4-quadrant will always yield its highest scores when you first boot the phone run it a few times to get warmed up.

Autokiller can be manipulated at your every whim. Just change the "oom" value of the process while in the Autokiller app. You can push it so far that Autokiller will consider the process mission critical to you and pretty much NEVER kill it. You can do that with any process you regularly use, and with SetCPU, I certainly recommend it!!

Also, have you noticed any stability or lockup issues having Autokiller set so aggressively? I would like to free up more memory, too, but even before I put on the custom kernels, I had stability issues with my Fascinate when Autokiller was set to anything more aggressive than optimum.

autokiller has been good but sometimes it interferes with google voice. Whenever i tried placing a call it will not fully connect, it usually works the second time i try. According to the dev, its OK to set it on aggressive (82, 90, 98) and the alternate screen off on ultimate to obtain great battery life. I have fiddle with extreme but i think its killing Set CPU.
How do you maneuver the "oom" value process? should it be higher or lower and what is a good number to set it up. thanks again

i dont use profiles, really no need, but if it concerns you go in and remove/edit the profiles in setCPU

2- Every time i restart the phone, the max is at 1250 and the min at 100 but when i placed a widget on the main screen to confirm it said 800 max and 100 min. the widget is weird acting. here's what i did, they recommend you dont use the "set on boot" option but i do. there's a safe boot mode that can get you out of a problem...anyways, if you set your speeds, choose set on boot option, then reboot the phone, then remove the widget from the home screen and put it back up again, the widget will then reflect the settings. right now whats happening is you dont have set on boot checked, so every time you reboot you have to re-auto detect and set the speeds. thats why the widget reports 800Mhz, because until you go into setCPU to set it back to 1250max its running 800max, the "set on boot" option takes care of not having to go in and reset it every time. also consider using the setcpu.txt boot file option

3- Setting autokiller to such high standards will kill SET CPU, hope not. I emailed the dev and he suggested that i place my preference in aggresive and alternate screen off to ultimate (200 range) for great battery life.

i have never used any task killers

4- By the end of the day around 11pm my Quadrant benchmark scores tend to oscillate between 1787-1971. is there something wrong?

i dont keep running it, i ran it a few times after loading the 1250LV kernel and havent used it since

5- my battery life has been decent ( my reception is good 3 to 4 bars and is at 86 dmb)i unplug it at 9:15 am around 50 texts, check emails manually every hour since its off, talked on the phone for 18 min, surf the web for 7 min, look around marketplace for 5 min and my battery is at 79% around 4:55pm.

one day my battery went really fast unexplainably, like within three hours it was down to 20% from a full charge......only did it that once....no idea why....sounds to me like you are getting pretty good battery life. a normal day for me is 7am off the charger full, and by 5-6pm i am sitting around 20%, but i use my phone a LOT

sorry for the long rant but i have been in the hospital and i need my fascinate to be fast while having a better than average battery life. thank you and i am sorry again for the long message

hope that helps

thank you very much james, by the way do you have your settings on set CPU to boot on conservative or on-demand?
Well james really hit the nail on the head for you. Usually we are told not to use on-demand just as we are told not to use profiles. I think thats just because they dont want us borking it.
You can seet on boot if you know you are ok booting at that speed. I still dont turn it on since it only takes a second to slide the sliders.
Also FWIW, I just today uninstalled AutoKiller and will see what difference that makes over the next few days.
I got rid of TW today too and thats been great phone boots and loads faster now

i am also planning in uninstalling autokiller, i think it is not as pivotal in battery life as i suspected. I got rid of profiles and i will stick with conservative, i have launcher pro plus but it doesn't play nice with my phone. every time i try to swap an app from the ones that are located and fixed at the bottom of the screen it won let me open it. I tried ADW but it was not aesthetically appealing to me.

Im not 100% stable with the 1250LV yet but since getting rid of TW and AutoKiller I can at least do somethings in terms of benchmarking. Im definitely going to need a higher voltage version of this. I still lock this sucker when set to Performance during bench runs. I even hit a 10.688 on Linpack but then kept refreshing and never got that score back so I figured Id just grab this one quickly. If I leave it at conservative its better save quadrant. Probably going back to 1200LV but this was encouraging for sure
