Disable Backlighting......Maybe Permanently

Is there a way to permanently disable backlighting?

I don't like the backlighting and I never use it at all. Some roms I have tried, but found myself unable to stay on them as the unchecking "enable backlighting" feature didn't seem to work.

On Sammy roms disabling works just fine. But on most of the AOKP roms the disabling of the backlighting only works until the screen goes off. When I turn the screen back on...the lights are back on again even though the box to "enable" is not checked. I even tried to flash CM10.......just because I can :D.....and the backlighting comes back on there as well.

Thanks in advance

That post you linked me to says to make a file at /data/.disable_touchlight

So I made a folder .disable_touchlight (because there wasn't one there to put a file in) but what file do I put in there? Sorry for the silly question but this is really out of my typical area.

Do you have an other ideas, because that didn't work for me.

I put the .disable_touchlight file in both my primary and secondary roms. I have tried it in a folder (before you told me I didn't need to), and also without one. Does this file require any sort of special permissions? The only things checked by default are Owner read and write.

Am I missing something here?

As I recall, as I did this a few weeks ago, there is a folder called "data" on SD card as well as at root level. I believe it should go in the one at root level and I used Root Explorer to place the file with no particular file settings. Simply made new file with this title .disable_touchlight. The dot before would normally indicate a hidden folder so best to make sure your file manager is set to show them so you can check if it is there. Then a quick reboot to check it.
Other than that, can't suggest anything else as it worked ok for me but I only needed it once on a particular rom. You could also PM, twiq from the post at xda and ask for any other info.
