Disable Voicemail Notification?

I hate seeing the voicemail notification, in fact I hate voicemail altogether, if it wasn't for my ringback tones, I would have it voicemail disabled altogether. Is there any way to disable just the notification icon in the notification bar on the Galaxy Nexus? I've already tried calling my voicemail, but there is no setting for that in my voicemail.

Who do you have for a carrier? I know on Verizon, there is an option to turn Message Waiting Indicator on or off, buried in the VM menu in the system. But that's on VZW, so other carriers may be set up different.

Unless the previous poster is correct about a carrier menu option in their voicemail system, I think you are out of luck. The VM notification symbol is straight from the carrier. If you've got voicemail on their system the icon will be present until its deleted or saved. Its basically pushed by the carrier.

Sprint's: http://www.sprint.com/cdma/assets/pdfs/services_guides/calling/spcs_voicemail_ug.pdf (though it doesn't have any option to disable VM Notifications, but you may be able to call Sprint and have it turned off at the account level for your phone instead if you use sprint)

Ok, that's all I got lol. Dunno if it'll help, but maybe.

Have you tried changing your conditional call forwarding to be disabled, preventing calls from being forwarded to voicemail? This won't get rid of the indicator, but once you do get rid of it by other means (listening to the dreaded voicemail one time), this should minimize the chance of it reappearing.

I have my conditional call forwarding disabled, so that when someone calls my Google Voice number (and it forwards to me cell phone), I can let the call ring, or even dismiss/ignore it, and the caller will hear ringing until Google Voice picks up and send it to voicemail (GV). If someone calls my phone directly I can dismiss (or let it ring) and the caller will hear ringing until they give up.
