Root Disabling GPS-tagging with froyo roms?

The gps tagging on/off setting seems to be completely gone in the camera app. I'm on Cog 3.01, but apparently this is the case for other of froyo roms.

Pretty big security issue if you ask me. It's really easy to accidentally share your home address in photos. It seems to tag shots automatically based on either the Wifi location, or whether your GPS is on.

The only way it seems to disable this is to turn off ALL the location stuff BEFORE taking a shot. Which is really a pain in the

I don't see where I can turn it on or off, but when checking the properties of pics taken, it states "unknown location"....I'm on Serendipity 5.12 though, so I don't know if that makes a difference from stock FroYo...

It appears they are now using the setting from settings->Location and Security-> and if either "Use Wireless networks" OR "use GPS satellites" is checked then your camera will use the GPS position.

You can also tell if the camera will use the GPS position if from the camera if you see a satellite icon from the camera applicaiton. I just liked it before when a settings was also in the camera.

But doing that also turns off GPS in Google Maps and Facebook places. That's not a good solution. I can't believe there's not a way to turn it off for just the camera

Finally found it on my phone. The Geo tagging is off on my phone from the factory, it is a Optimus V.
You will find the setting in the camera.
Turn your camera on, there will be the button to take the picture, the slide going between picture and video and the picture icon that takes you to you gallery.
Above that area in the picture area there are 4 small images almost look like watermarks on the screen.
First is 1x for digital zooming
Second is an Aw which is the light setting on the camera
Third is a circle with a Satellite dish icon in it OR it may just be a satellite icon. THAT is where the GeoTagging setting is. On my phone if GeoTag is off the dish has the circle around it, if it is on the circle is gone and only the dish shows.
When you select this it says Store Location On or Off. Mine is off from the factory.
Hope this helps.

Is funny, I came here looking for this answer and all the little clues in this thread pointed me to its location.
Thanks for the help everyone.:D

I'm not seeing this at all. Are you on 2.2 or 2.2.1?

Can someone with a Captivate on 2.2 verify what he's seeing?

I don't see what he's talking about either. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Optimus V have a 3.2 megapixel compared to the Captivate's 5MP camera? I think he's seeing different settings since it's a totally different phone.

Here is what my camera screen looks like.

I'm running Official Froyo 2.2. My screen matches the screenshot posted. I can't find anyway to turn off the geo tagging either...

There is a gps toggle on the notifications bar now. I guess I can just try to use that and remember to turn it on when I need it.

That GPS toggle won't turn off location tagging that might use the wifi results, (I think). Here's an experiment, turn off GPS. Then go to google maps to get a wifi location fix. Then take a picture with the camera (make sure GPS is still turned off).

I bet the location details from the wifi location are tagged in the shot.

on the captivate w/ 2.2..

If ("Use wireless networks") OR ("Use GPS satellite") // enabled in settings
AND (the phone has locked onto a GPS signal WIFI or 3G)
THEN
You will have a picture with a tagged GPS position.

That's just it. Google maps won't get a location with gps off. First thing it does is prompt you to turn it on. Then you need to remember to turn if off before using the camera.

Thanks for starting and posting in this thread. I didn't know the camera app on my Vibrant geotagged by default. Hell, I didn't know what GeoTagging was until about 10 minutes ago.
