Root [Discussion - Developers _ONLY_] Building ICS from source (Isaac's github).

Your own build and kernal?

Isaac's repo and my own built ics kernel from his repo with some of edowar's kernel changes and cm updates was it.

I installed in cwm and then rebooted and turned away, expecting to end up on the black non-booting screen, and when I turned back there it was on the boot screen. I was totally shocked! lol.

 And the touchscreen works and everything?

why do you always have the best of luck! :D and do you upload your personal changes to github? i'd like to try out working ics (im like a alcoholic in a liquor store when it comes to hearing this success story :p) BTW what works/doesnt work?

p.s- please share if you can (not trying to be a pest)

You should create device & other ICS repos so others can pick up your changes/fixes. This is pretty awesome.

Yeah, I'll push the differences up maybe later tonight or tomorrow so maybe somebody else can figure out all the fc's.

The touchscreen works fine.

As for what else works, i don't know. It's hard to do anything with all of the FC's. There's a load of stuff NOT working... But it's a start.

Awesome! Even with all the FC at least there is now a working starting point :D

Hey can you just do a quick 'dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt' and a 'logcat > /sdcard/logcat.txt' via adb shell, then upload those files or use pastebin.com for those of us to look at without the ROM. I'm curious what the errors are and if people can try to debug without booting into it.

lol told ya' it wasnt me :P haha i wish it was though!

Please post a log cat. Also is the hardware acceleration working or not. Isaacs would boot but we wanted to fix the Hardware acceleration first and thats what the genlock driver is for.

All you have to do to get Isaacs to boot is take out all the genlock stuff. At least I think so. If hardware Acc. isnt working then Its kinda a step backwards.

Not to be a negative nancy I just dont want everyone to get there hopes up because the only reason to use ICS over cm7 would be the Hardware accel. and maybe the native hdmi stuff.

I'm not at my computer atm. However, it hasnt booted for me with the genlock in the kernel until now.

I think I read that the camera folder has to be deleted - /device/motorola/triumph/overlay/packages/apps/camera

Last build I attempted, deleting that folder allowed it to continue. Forget where I read it, but something said that native camera worked fine & overlay wasn't needed anymore.

I was able to sync down issac's code after changing the .repo file and replacing all the git:// to https://. However there is a lot of problems with his code, the first one being the camera app which I removed but still wouldn't build. After I removed the camera app I then received some java error that no one has posted on our forum area. The only other place I found that error was people getting the exact same error compiling CM7 but not ICS. At this point I am going to build straight from google's source as I have no clue how many people have republished changes to Isacc's original code. I will keep you guys posted as I can only work on this at night.

D'oh... you beat me to it. I wanted to test it out, so I flashed and got a logcat and dmesg. I did notice that my sd card didn't mount. The amount of FC (the phone process crashing continually) basically makes this unusable, but I'm still super impressed! Great job to everyone who worked on this! :) Looking forward to seeing more progress!

So I deleted the phone.apk from the .zip (since i tried before and it kept force closing) and it works!

Edit: pretty much nothing works... No wifi, lots of fc when starting things, but I can browse it without any fc... Also it doesn't appear to have hardware acceleration... Am I safe in assuming this?

Edit 2: Also usb storage doesn't mount :/, and I have no service... Capacitive buttons light up, but no haptic feedback. The vibration does work when using keyboard or changing volume to vibrate though. Also it doesn't detect when headphone are plugged in.
