Root [Discussion - Developers _ONLY_] Building ICS from source (Isaac's github).

I made a 1:30 video of this running and am going to upload. If this seems premature to anyone, please let me know and I will remove. I understand that this is VERY Pre-ALPHA!!! I just want to quench everyone's thirst for ICS!
I will give credit to everyone!

and to those that helped me in the last 2 days, THANK YOU!~!

edit:
Uploaded to youtube....if i left out anyone's name, PLEASE lemme know!
Motorola Triumph Ice Cream Sandwich - YouTube
now, back to work!~!

Correction this is VERY ALPHA! Very few things work I might even call this pre-alpha... Just saying... But cool video anyways :D

Lol. Maybe if things actually ran it could be classified as more of an alpha or beta... even if calling and mms worked, but settings barely work, LWP don't work, sd doesn't mount, hardware acceleration doesn't work (or not very well), wifi doesn't work, but the main thing is, is that it boots and the touchscreen works! Everything else should (hopefully) start falling in place. I might mess with this a bit more, but I have limited knowledge on any of this stuff and I work all day tomorrow... :/ But to everyone else, GOOD LUCK! And may we get a more functional rom! :D

Is hardware acceleration enabled in the kernel?

If there is a phone with working ICS on it, and it has the same WLAN/WiFi chip as the Triumph, could we use the files from those phones to get WiFi booting?

Also, it's been like 30 minutes and my phone is still trying to boot Mantera's ICS build D: what did I do wrong? I deleted the phone.apk then flashed D:

I have an idea. I will flash mantera's build, back up his build (in CWM), flash the Ideos build, then do a advance restore of the boot.img and see what happens.

Hmm... I see we have something to work with now.

I did the steps above, and it turns out touchscreen partially works on the Ideos X6 build. It is only working as a pointer device right now. :/ BUT, it seems like hardware acceleration is working. And I'm not getting FC's every freaking second.

Did you factory reset then flash the .zip?

That's one thing they say on their forum that hardware acceleration is on of the bugs but when I saw a video of it I was like there's no way it doesn't work! Also does sms/ calling work?

Well, I can't tell you because the touchscreen isn't fully working. :/

Correct.
I don't think hardware acceleration works on EITHER build. When I used mantera's build, there were a lot of force closes without removing the phone.apk. but, touchscreen worked! Haven't had time to try edowar's kernel tho.

Good luck!

Go to the videos x6 xda thread and check their aosp ice thread there's a video somewhere in there and you can see how smooth it runs... you can't really even do much testing without the sdcard being able to mount tho... But their build runs a hell of a lot smoother than our build.

Yeah I tried that build 1st, and as of the time i checked, their touchscreen drivers didn't work yet.....

It works just our phone has a different driver than ours that's why it doesn't work on ours but it works on the Ideos X6...

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pExaOZ2aI9E&lc=xaObQ7RZ_Od1R_L1Y3vtXTG57y8dMlvSuzYFSm4eF_4&feature=inbox

Credit to all the people over at the Ideos X6 people...

Now look and tell me this doesn't have hardware acceleration...

well with the ideos x6 the problem is gonna be getting the radio to work as that rom is made for a phone with sim cards. The biggest problem ticker guy had with our phones is rebuilding from scratch to get the radio to work. So nomatter how much work you do to that rom your never gonna get the radio to work because you have to start with source made for a phone that doesnt use a sim card.

I dont know the exact details but this was the problem back with cm7

The thing about that is I'm sure we could always take things from this and integrate them into mantera's build... Also I'm pretty sure if we could even get the touch screen working on the Ideos X6 build we could call and text... Just like in Andro-ID... The only problem even though that is made for the Ideos X6 was there is no data... So calls and sms would work just no data...

The biggest issue with that is the fact that Ideos X6 is GSM, and Triumph is CDMA. (This was sort of stated a couple posts ago). If you can't get mobile data/MMS working then it is not going to be used for anything more than screwing around (like Androi-ID is now). It will be much more difficult to try to port the ICS ROM from a GSM phone (even one with very similar hardware) than it would be to use the CM9 source and build it for the Triumph. There is a reason CM7 was done that way and not ported form another device. I think you can use some of the code from the Ideos X6 (hardware related stuff) to help build it for the Triumph, but I wouldn't recommend porting their ROM.

I know I can't do most of this myself. Just trying to help clarify a point.

Yea that's what I meant not port it, but merge some of the working things that don't have to do with the radio into mantera's build... I would do it, but I have no clue where to start or what to do :/

This is what Ive been doing to no avail...

# export PATH="$HOME/android-sdk-linux/tools:$HOME/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools:$PATH"

# mkdir ~/bin

# PATH=~/bin:#PATH

# curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo

# chmod a+x ~/bin/repo

# mkdir ICS_SOURCE

# cd ICS_SOURCE

# repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.3_r1

repo: command not found

am i STILL doing it wrong??
you have to log out and back in, it's required. or try:

~/bin/repo ...

its not recognizing the repo executable in your env path.
