Help Display Eating Battery

I'm putting my android to the ultimate battery life test st the moment. I have been at the IRS for just over 2 hours. I have been playing music and using it constantly. I still have 52% left on my battery. If I continue at this rate, my phone will still last me for another 2 hours or so. This is MUCH better than the battery life I was originally getting. It should have already been dead.

My battery saving methods:
Juice Defender - amazing. If you have short battery life, get this.
Black wallpaper - couldn't hurt.
Dim screen - good idea if you don't need it to be bright.

That's what I was thinking at first, but the according to gabbott and other parts of the internet, no. Pure black shuts off the pixel completely, dark grey still displays dark grey.

EDIT: Also, I wasn't completely convinced that the background was 100% black, so I decided to make one. That way I KNOW it's 100% black and the right resolution. Here's a QR code for the "ideal" wallpaper for the Nexus S 4G.

ok, i'm new to the qrcode stuff - i scanned it but now what? i can't seem to figure out how to save the wallpaper

When you scan it, it should take you to a pure black wallpaper that's the right resolution for the Nexus S 4G. Just hold down on it and click Set As Wallpaper.

I made my own by pressing the phone's camera against a few pieces of paper to black out any light from seeping into the camera lens, taking a photo, and making it my wallpaper. Works great, especially as a backdrop for the app icons.

Just tried it to see if it worked well for me, wasn't happy with the results. While it's ALMOST 100% black, if you look closely, you can see some specs on the photo. These specs will have the backlight on.

Get the qr scanner from the market and scan the QR previously posted. Use that background, you will be SHOCKED at how much better it looks than just taking a picture of a black background or blacking out the camera. We tried both and it is a WORLD of difference between the two.

I just pulled the black photo that I took with the phone into Photoshop, painted the entire 2560x1920 pixel rectangle with absolute black, and copied that resulting image to the phone.

I went into a dark room and could see very faint non-black pixels on the edge of the snapped photo, so I set my Photoshopped black image as my wallpaper. The difference did not shock me, but now I am guaranteed all pixels are off on the wallpaper.

I actually like my display power consumption as high as possible. It means I don't have any other useless crap running in the background chewing up my battery, and the display is the one that's using up most of it while it's on. As someone else has mentioned, it's a relative power consumption to other processes, so the fewer processes you run, the higher your display power consumption will be. As soon as I put my phone down and display goes off, that power drain should drop to 0%, and I know there won't be much of anything else draining the battery. I've seen mine as high as 80%.

your display drops to zero? even if i let my phone sit for some time it always seems to be at least in the 40's -typically how many other processes do you show running?

I don't know if it really drops to 0%, I'm just guessing it does because the display is off. Unfortunately, being able to see your display power consumption requires you to turn the display on, so there is no way to see what it actually is while the display is off. Does it make sense?

Just like the question of the ages: When you close your refrigerator door, does the light go off???

So, I'm currently laying in bed and I just noticed something... Go into a room that is as dark as possible while you have a black background. In theory, you should be able to cover up all the non-background pixels and see absolutely no light coming from the screen, however, this doesn't appear to be the case since my screen is still lit a little. Any thoughts on that?

I have also the same problem with my Galaxy Nexus ...just got it before 3 days and since then I am experiencing this problem;more than 50% Battery is consumed by display as showed in settings>battery.

Battery backup is very poor I tried all the recommended things and downloaded Battery saver app also.Still Battery is not lasting more than 14-18 hrs.
Anybody have a permanent solution?

Tried the above solution...phone has been sitting on work desk all day and battery is dwindling down. Widgets gone and wifi off.

Display is still using 56%?!

Anyone else out there experiencing the same problem?
