Dissapointed in the screen

while the whites are stellar (neutral--unlike many current phones like the s3, razr maxx HD, etc that have gray-greenish whites), all four edges of the screen have a darkish band about > 1/8" wide, and irregular. At first I thought it was a "feature" of certain screens to give a 3d effect, but soon realized it shows up on every white screen.

Also, while the earpiece sound was excellent, music through the speakerphone was marginal at best. my crummy bionic even sounds better!! :)

other than that (and the paltry 16GB internal only memory), it seems like a nice phone.

Sounds like the "banding" that the Sony LCD TVs had for a while. For the Sony, its was the glue between the GG and the panel and if it was screwed down to tight it caused it to be visible on light colored colors.

Pictures of how visible it is..?

nope, no pics. it was the first thing I noticed upon looking at the DNA. hadn't expected to notice anything so obvious, nor was I "looking" for it. The thing that I wanted to determine was whether or not the whites were reasonably "white", which they are.

Hmm... I think I see what you are talking about, but are you sure its not an illusion due to being near the edge of the black bezel. I am not so sure it is real. Unless your phone has something else going on.

I just played with a demo finally. It had no issues. I would ezchange yours. Trust me, i know what banding is and how to get it to show.

don't own one. was just looking at it. I'd want more memory, so I just wanted to see if the DNA was going to be something to keep on my "short list".

I played with one today at the store and the demo software they put on these things really tends to mess things up. It took it a bit to get back to the homescreen so I could play with it under normal conditions and even flashed back and forth a few times. The screen looked nice to me but Sense is just getting in it's own way at this point. I don't think I could get this knowing that the Note 2 is on the market. This is coming from an Evo 4G and Evo 3D user and Sense fan.

Perhaps the model was defective or you have incredible eyes. I've been scrutinizing the screen against SGS3 and any other available device trying to find a reason to not like this phone (due to the large size of the phone). If there's one thing I'm certain of, it is the amazing quality of this screen. This coming from a "retina" iphone user...

nothing special about my eyes. it was a brand new unit at a verizon store and all the edges were gray. of course if you look at a screen with lots of color, or a busy background it's hardly noticeable if at all. on a white screen, it immediately jumped out at me--an artifact I've not noticed before, so it's not like I was LOOKING for it.
