Do all hotspot apps need 4g?

My wife has a 4g phone but runs on 3g service. All the hotspot apps I'm finding need 4g service. Any help?

We used to run hotspots on 1G, so the answer is no. Whether anyone has written a hotspot app that doesn't close out if there's no 4G connection is another matter, but tethering can be done regardless of the speed of the connection.

Yeah i dont even have 4g and i tether so it isnt technically impossible but i dont know about these apps because i dont use one.
i cant think of a reason why they would be limited to 4g..

Back before I got wifi at home, I always tethered my 3g service wired and wireless.

What I used, klink (wired), foxfi (wireless). Neither needed 4g to operate.

BEETmobile is working on her phone. Not sure why others wouldn't work but Beet is doing the trick. Thanks all.

If it's just for one connection I just seen a Bluetooth Auto Tethering app on g play.
