Do I need Screen Protector For Droid Bionic?

because I first said they are cheap and easily replaceable. Like i said NOTHING is 100 percent scratch proof. I would rather have a crystal clear screen protector that cost me 2 bucks, that I have to replace every 3 or 4 months get scratched than my 500 dollar phone.

and relax, I'm not saying anyone here is being arrogant. I speak only of myself.

Is gorilla glass tough? You betcha. If you put you phone in your pocket naked with your keys and get bumped into while walking down the street and you screen gets scratched because you didn't have a SP on it, will they replace your phone?

As you can see in the video above there is always a chance that you can scratch the screen.. I will always use it even with gorilla glass.. My DX still looks like a brand new phone even after dropping it on concrete.

I try to never put my Droid in the same pocket as my keys or change, but I forget quite often. I've also dropped it face down on gravel and pavement. Never had a scratch. I know that GG can technically scratch, but I think it would take a lot, maybe even deliberate, work to do it.

I was obsessive at first about having screen protectors on it. I got the cheap ones at Verizon (and made them put it on because I suck at it), then once it started peeling I got the Zagg, but didn't like the texture either, then got Ghost Armour.

The one thing I hated was that I was constantly having to deal with the problem that I wanted to avoid in the first place: pocks and scratches all over the place. It was VERY noticeable. They say Ghost Armour gouges gradually go away, but I didn't find that to be true. I'd just have these long scratches on the screen. I took it off, and have never had any problem since.

But, to each his own.

keys should not be able to scratch your phone simply because GG have higher hardness than steel. you do need to worry about rocks and concretes.

Therein lies the difference. I knew better than to put my DROID in my pockets - I've done it all of maybe 5 times. I instead opted to purchase a Shell / holster combination and use that. the inconvenience is that I had to remove the back of the shell in order to use the docks - but the major conveniences are 1) I can hear it better, 2) it has much more airflow, and less chance of absorbing moisture from when I start to sweat (and it's been in the upper 90s all month long here, if that gives you an indication as to why I am concerned about it), 3) it's much more easily accessible, even when driving and it is not in its dock.

It's been dropped on hard surfaces maybe twice. The rest of the falls were on carpet. Highly durable pile carpet the likes of which is not seen anymore in carpet outlet centers (this stuff is like 99 pile, or something like that). So, yeah, I've taken better care of my phone than normal - but I've always treated it as a gold mine in my hands, so....

Well, just to throw it out there, when you buy any phone at Costco you get a car charger and leather carrying case. On almost all touch screen smart phones you get screen protectors. So you'll get that PLUS the bundle for $300.

OK, I really need to know - I have to physically go into the store and buy this, and I must have at least a basic membership (that goes for like $50) right?

hell, PM sent

Yes, that is correct you need at least a basic membership, which is about that ($45 when I got it). You will also need to get it from the store. There are phones you can buy from the site, but they are different than the ones we carry in the store (such as Sprint phones which we do not have at our kiosk).

The D3 was available online since the day it was released, but we only got it in our store a couple of weeks ago. Since then, you can not buy the phone online, saying you need to buy it at the kiosk. Think that about settles it.

I know it's a stretch to buy a membership for just a phone. I can say that you're savings will be at least that. Also, Costco gas is almost always cheaper than anything around. Generally, it's significantly cheaper, like 5-20 cents cheaper, but not always. And they make a pretty cheap lunch, too.

Of course, that gets coupled with the fact that the nearest CostCo is only about 100 miles away, and my truck, which gets ~17 mpg (4.0 L v6 @ 261 HP) means the cost is more significant for me in the long run. I have to evaluate this closely and see if it is more than a $20 savings in the long run - else I'll just buy the stuff locally and save the gas.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. I'm so glad I have a Costco membership. I bought my gaming computer from there online and my laptop there in-store.

I love you more than Sams!

You also get people that are truly glad to help you. People at Sam's would rather stick needles in there eyes. lmao I do have a membership there, too, though. :p

One of the things that separates Costco from Sam's and others is their treatment of the employees. People get paid pretty well to work at Costco and have pretty good benefits. This creates a lot of competition to get in and people who are happy to be there. Combine that with the general membership that eliminates much of the riffraff that a store without dues generates, and you have more happy employees helping happy customers. Also, the Costco guys are pretty cool. I enjoy working with them. And we have a fair bit of eye candy, too. lol

And I've seen the employee lounges you guys have. Vending machines, couches, tables, big screen TVs, Xbox...

Hate to hijack the thread, but do you get discounts for working there?

On topic:

I always try to put screen protectors on the screens that I'm not going to touch. My enV touch had both screens protected, but I got so annoyed with bubbles, scratches, and the texture, that I took the outside on off.

Pix or it didn't happen. In a screen protector non-threadjacking kinda way, of course.

You'd have to come in to our kiosk. Our live units have lots of pix to display the quality of the camera. Our customers seem have a knack for taking pix at the most opportune moments. Yeah, those wacky customers...:D

My OG Droid and now my Droid X are naked. Not one scratch. My Thunderbolt had a couple of scratches in one week (POS HTC glass). I returned it because of poor battery life. My Bionic will go naked too. Gorilla glass is amazing.

Yankee, there is no Costco around where I go to school but my girlfriend is coming up to visit on the 9th (the day after the Bionic launch). Is it possible to buy the Bionic at Costco without activating it and then I could activate it at a Verizon store here?

When I first got my "X" I bought the anti-glare screen protector. I kept it on for about 6 weeks and the tried the Steinheil "Ultra Chrystal". Altho the anti-glare was indeed non-glare I prefer the Steinheil. To be fair, the screen was easier to see in sunlight with the anti-glare but I very very seldom need to use my phone in direct sunlight.

The "X" has gorilla glass which in almost scratch-proof, I will use Steinheil on all my phones "Just in case".

I'm working later, I'll ask my KM and see what he says. I think you could, but it's best to be sure.

As mentioned before - DROID (original) since drop day - that would be 6 Nov 2009.

Scratches: 0

Same here - I keep it in a sleeve in my bag to protect it, but have never worried whether or not it was in the sleeve.

I think the answer is - what are you going to do with your phone? Slip it in your pocket or briefcase? Or throw it in a sand packed backpack with loose climbing equipment and a couple of lead weights?
