LOL, I do take my phone on the pot. I play angy birds, but that's beside the point, it's not the pot, it's the principle.
 
I can set the alarm using the clock widget on sense and it: works but there is no clock app. Why I have the clock app using go launcher but not on sense is strange but I will not lose sleep over it.

That sounds a little odd. Did you search before you bought the phone? Or only after? Since you say it's that bad, you could have easily avoided all these problems through a search before buying.

I think Verizon should let you exchange it for something else when show them all the problems with it.

I concede to you. I didn't search before I bought. My brother has a Inc 1 and recommended it to me. I bought it on blind faith thinking that the basic functionality was ok on a second release of a product that was recommended to me. My bad.
 
I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in this thread, but an observation I have on the Dinc2 over the Blackberry Storm 2 that I used to have is...

Blackberry did a better job of phone functions. This Dinc2 is an incredible computer and I love the apps, but it is kind of sucky as a phone.

The external speaker is woefully inadequate... I can't use the speakerphone for any calls because I can't hear the person I'm talking to. If I want to watch a movie on Netflix I have to use headphones to hear anything. And yes, I have had my hearing checked and I'm actually off the charts (to the good).

Text/Email notification options.... the phone only beeps once and due to the poor speaker I rarely ever hear it. Every phone I have owned has let you set how many times your phone would beep or tone or chirp or whatever you chose. If there is an app to fix this that would be great to know.

I will give HTC credit for the in-call clarity (non-speakerphone), it is superb.

There are a lot of other little quirks with the phone function that get under my skin that I hope I can get used to. It seems like HTC (and other smartphone makers) have focused so much on making their phones smarter that they have forgotten to make them really good PHONES first.

So you get a call, or email or something and after 5 minutes there is no longer an icon in the upper task bar?

I called my phone at 7:32am. It is now 7:50 and it still says I have a missed call.

Setting maybe?



I do not use an app for these notifications but I do for alarm clock. Not because I've had a problem with the stock one, just because i like a fancy one.
 
I think he means the LED stops flashing. So if your phone is sitting on the on the table in front of you and the screen is dark you would never know you had a call or txt till you unlocked the phone.

No, the icon in the notification bar is NOT the problem. The external LED stops blinking after 5 minutes. So if you missed a call 6 minutes ago while you were talking to a coworker, return to your desk, the phone is sitting right next to you, you would NOT know that you missed that call until you actually pick the phone up and wake it up.

Yes, sorry I responded before I read all the posts below. I can't believe no one else seems to care or notice this. Am I the only one who likes to be able to glance over at the phone and see if I missed anything without having to actually pick it up.

I've used every single phone I've ever had like this. I'm not only dumbfounded but the lack of this feature but also that I'm one of a handful of people that seem to care. I feel like I'm in the loony bin or something. Wow!

Again, every phone I've ever had blinked an external led indefinitely for notifications. I've never noticed any battery issues with this feature. In fact, as I mentioned before, the Dinc 2 has the least impressive battery life I've seen in a smartphone and it doesn't blink an led past 5 minutes for notifications.
 
As far as the LED thing, is it really that much of a chore to pickup the phone, press the lock button and see if you missed something. I too started with the old phones (first was a Moto MictroTac) and I remember their recurring reminders and that there was no way to get rid of them other than dealing with them. When you're in a meeting and have a call keep coming back it's annoying as hell. I am ok with pressing a button to check if I missed something, but that's me.

As far as battery life, this thing is easily twice as good as the original Incredible, hell even most other smartphones. I usually squeeze out around 2-3 days (if I'm not playing games) out of it, so I'd give the usual advice. Look into the settings and see what's using up your battery. If it's the screen, lower the brightness or shorten the screen timeout. If it's thing's like push email or facebook, change the sync interval to a longer time or sync manually. It may even be an app that's not allowing the phone to sleep. There are tons of threads on any phone about battery life, if none of them help you you're probably looking at a bad phone or battery.

You mention you had the Blackberry Storm as apparently being better suited to your needs. If I recall there were tons of angry users with that series of phone. I almost got one myself until I started researching it and finally using one in the store. But if you really liked it there is supposed to be a followup to it coming to Verizon soon.

The Incredible 2 may not be for everyone, but the Incredible series has an extremely loyal following. Hell, I haven't been able to bring myself to sell my Incredible 1 yet. They always seem to be the cult classic in Verizon's lineup, with the publicity going to the Moto Droids & the Samsung Galaxy S variants. But at the end of the day, if you just can't live with the so called problems it has, find something that will work better for you.
 
Yes, there are a few things that should have come stock out of the box with this phone. However, there are many great things that came with this phone that make it the best smartphone I have ever owned. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.

The clock issue is a big annoyance, but a downloaded app can fix that. There are other apps in the market that can give you notifications while phone is sleeping. (No LED works well). If battery life is not what you expected, there are also apps to help improve this as well. Although, I found that after using the phone a few days, battery life increased to a point that I don't worry about charging until bedtime, even with heavy use.

There are kinks still to be worked out, bugs to be exterminated and ghosts in the machine that need to cross over...This forum is a great place for all of us to work together to accomplish these things. Many, many great minds.

My point is, don't let a rock in the river or a pothole in the road stop your journey, find a way around it and enjoy the ride.
 
I don't understand how a Blackberry Storm suited your needs. I had one for 9 months and I couldn't even text with it anymore because the screen wouldn't register touches...and it was a fully touch screen phone. Not to mention that I had to pull the battery at least once a day because I was trying to send an email or text someone. Give me a break!

My incredible 2 on the other hand has been a breath of fresh air after having 2 blackberries and a palm pixi. I forgot to charge my phone last night after having used it all day and it's still got about 40% battery life. Not sure what's eating yours up but mine is chugging right along. I can't say I've noticed the LED thing because I check my phone for notifications compulsively, so that may be somewhat of a nuisance to some people.

Maybe I'm just blown away after never having a phone that could actually do all the things a smart phone should be able to do, this thing is by far the most useful gadget I've ever owned and I'm giddy with how great the battery life is. If I ever grow the stones to root it, I'm sure it'll open up a whole new world of possibilities causing me to fall in love all over again. Best of luck on your next advice, but this is everything I've wanted in a smart phone and more.
 
I too am coming from a BlackBerry Storm. Other than a few e-mail things I miss, I do not regret getting this phone. I'm not sure why you are getting poor battery life. I get 20 hours with moderate use.

Don't stress yourself over the signal bars. The Storm had this same issue at first. It was eventually fixed a few months later with an OS update. As long as you are not dropping calls or getting slow internet, isn't than what's really important?

I do have to agree it would be nice to be able to get more that two LED colors. I don't think it's enough to tell people not to get this phone.

At first I found it annoying to have to get apps for things I wanted. I'm now used to it and kind of like it because that way I can personalize my phone better. I'm not stuck with what Google or HTC give me.

The bloatware on this phone isn't that much worse than my Storm was. Lets hope someone will release a root option for GB so we can remove them.

The limitations you notice are real enough, it's just that not everyone gives them the same weight. Personally I don't care that the phone's software is less than adequate in some areas since I can get apps - often free or nearly so - that give me the added functionality. For instance I use WidgetLocker (WL) to deal with the notification issue. With WL I have added notification widgets to the lockscreen so all I have to do is touch the power button to see if I have new email or text messages. It's also an option in WL to show the standard notification bar so you can see everything that you would normally have to unlock the phone to see. Yes you still have remember to check and that's not as nice as having the LED blinking, but I've adjusted. The same goes for alarm clocks, weather apps, battery savers, SMS apps, etc. Look at the wealth of what is being given away to make the phone better.
 
I have to wonder if there is something else draining your battery. I think the phone has a really good battery life.

So far for today:

6am: unplugged phone, i did give it what i've seen called a bump charge (unplugged phone when i fed my fish and then plugged it back in while i got a shower)

Since then I've sent/received 55 text messages, downloaded/installed 2 apps, had wifi off, gps on, bluetooth on, display on low, weatherbug and 3G watchdog running in the background. I have checked facebook, google+ a few times, did some mild web browsing.

Display: 78%
phone idle: 9%
cell standby: 6%
voice calls: 4%
dialer: 2%
bluetooth: 1%

and the battery percentage is at 60%.

Pretty good imo.
 
I'm not sure why everyone keeps talking about the storm. It was not my favorite phone and for the second time, my previous phone was not a storm, it was a motorola droid 1.

Probably my favorite phone of all time was my motorola star tac flip phone. I think I got that thing wet like 4 times and never sopped working. I probably could have dropped that phone from 15 ft on concrete, flushed it down the toilet, go to pick it up at the water treatment plant, and I would still be able to make a call. Of course that was before smartphones but man was that thing stone cold reliable.

I'm slowly coming around to the Dinc 2 since my factory reset. I can't believe I had to do that but whatever. Also I take back what I was saying about the battery life. It's better than I previously thought. I tested it today with gps blaring for 4 hours of golf course yardages. I would say the battery life is slightly better than my moto droid 1.

Yes I'm eating more crow.
