Root Do we have root?

Haha, same, i just figured the 2 i said was a start. I haven't yet found those either. And I'm afraid to delete the wrong thigns.

When you start working with the ones you're not sure about deleting or might need later. Just rename them. That way if something gets screwed up you can just change it back. I've just been attaching ".bin" to the end of ones I don't want to show up in the app drawer.

I've been attaching .bak to mine, but I found some in data/app

So, new to rooting here (I've loaded ROMS on WinMo though).

What exactly happens after rooting? Does everything else work exactly the same? Like you can't tell it's even rooted until you do something that requires root?

I assume that if the phone is rooted, it could be easier to brick accidentally?

Once rooted, how do we actually remove the bloatware stuff?

When Moto/VZ issue further OTA updates, can that un-root the phone?

Can the phone be un-rooted easily?

I guess it'd be nice if there was a general rooting FAQ or something out there.

Root allows you to change system files, delete, add, modify, so on. It also allows you to run apps from the market that require root (root explorer). Only an update will unroot you, and until the bootloader is cracked, root may not last long because of that.

If I root my phone, does that void my insurance plan that I purchased with Verizon? Not the extended warranty but the $6 one.

I guess? Technically. For right now, though, all you have to do is factory reset your phone and *boom* root is gone (I'm pretty sure). It's not a big deal at all.

The 6$ insurance one is insurance. Yes your warranty will be voided so you will not be able to go into Verizon and expect a new phone because yours "stop working". But if you have insurance, check your policy, it will cover you if your device gets lost, stolen, broken, fell into the bottom of a lake, or whatever. You can file a insurance claim, pay the 80$ and they will send you a new phone. So if you brick your phone you can "lose" your device. Be careful because you are only allowed 2 replacements a year.

HELLS TO THE YEAH!!!! This is AWESOME news. Once again the Devs prove that they can evolve and keep up with the ever changing technology. Time for me to get ready to hear my wifes mouth when I get home.... lmao

To remove some bloatware guys just use Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" apps which basically gets rid of them.

I think I just killed 3g hotspot by renaming mynet.apk or something. I also killed some of the blur stuff so I don't know for sure if mynet is the one.

Figured this would happen. All the hullaballoo about the phone and it's rooted. Doesn't mean there isn't still work to be done. People will always find a way though.

Can someone post the files here. I can't download from there and they are taking forever to send the registration confirmation email

This totally rocks. And is why I love Android, open source and all the wonderful hackers out there that understand how it all works in ways that I never will. Power to the people, Baby! Love it.

Start to finish took less than 5 minutes and Wifi tether is working flawlessly. 3.5 Mb down and 450 Kb up on first tethered speed test. Great work guys.

That's weird I didn't register. But I was also like the second person to download it :p I can't upload the zip file here for some reason? I've never done that before.

wow very simple root process for the X. Sure every device eventually gets root, some get it through weird near mystical processes (*cough* the Incredible).

It's alway nice to see a process that is as simple as rooting my DROID :P

Well played guys. Now onto the hard part, crack this BL so I can get an X :D

Wow this is amazing news. I wonder what all of those people who said "I'm not getting a Droid X because I want root." are saying now... lol

There needs to be a All Things Root subforum for the Droid X now.

The smart ones are saying "We knew the phone could root, but it will never be able to load custom roms or flashing."

I.E. Wouldn't be able to install a leaked Gingerbread.

Big difference. The truth still holds.

I think most of those people (like myself) are less interested in having root than we are in the locked bootloader.

But Root is step 1 in the process to hacking this B!tch of a BL so, huzzah!

Also does anyone know if this is another Race condition exploit to root, like the incredible and eris root methods? if so it seems like they have really stumbled onto a more or less common method of root for android devices.

I want this man burned at the stake next week when I'm rocking gingerbread :D

And hackers aren't smart enough to find a way around it? I wonder how many of them would actually be working on this. Breaking this would bring instant reputation.

I've print screened and saved your comment just in case for memories sake. :p
