Root Do we have root?

And hackers aren't smart enough to find a way around it? I wonder how many of them would actually be working on this. Breaking this would bring instant reputation.

I've print screened and saved your comment just in case for memories sake. :p

That's hilarious

Lest the thread spiral towards off topic land, I'll refer you to official droid x encrypted bootloader efuse thread

where this is all discussed ad nausuem, but let me just add that, YES its possible to hack (anything is), YES we hope it will happen, NO it is not likely to happen in the normal life of the device ie. the next year or so (ref: Moto Milestone)

It can be a bit tricky if you are not computer savvy- it involves some command line stuff and you need to install the Android Developers Kit on your computer. Took me 15 minutes.

Rooted and wifi tether working-- which is all I really wanted from root anyway! AWESOME!!!!

I truly believe the Milestone wasn't cracked because it didn't have a big enough user base. The Droid X is an extremely popular phone and has some of the best android hackers working on it. Do I think it'll be cracked? I can only hope so. You may be right and you may be wrong, but I hope you're wrong (no offense).

hell, I hope I'm wrong too. Just being reasonable, encryption is tough.

wow when I 1st went on the site the zip file was donwloaded 5x, when I downloaded it 5 mins later it was up to 65+

So, what happens if Motorola/Verizon issue an OTA update tomorrow? Will that un-root? Will it bring back the bloatware apps that we hide?

I'd certainly welcome any further OTA fixes, but I really don't want to root and get used to all the things I'd get from root, only to find out that when the next OTA comes, root is gone.

Do OTAs typically un-root rooted phones?

Also I am along the lines of the other newbies here I need "Rooting for dummies." I'm no idiot, & I'm pretty tech oriented (hence why I got the X) but never really did this before as this is my 1st android phone. Any guides, links or suggestions out there?

To remove some bloatware guys just use Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" apps which basically gets rid of them.
Never used Titanium. Does freezing just hide them from the applocker or does it also stop them from running (if they start up at boot already) entirely?

Is there an un-freeze in Titanium that just reverses the process?

TiBu is a great app but doesn't really get used to its full potential till we can flash custom ROMs:D

It keeps them from running, and yes there is "de-frost" I believe it's called, just reverses it. Makes it very simple.

It may unroot. To be safe you can disable OTA's by renaming the "otacerts.zip" file (rename to otacerts.zip.bak or what ever you want) in the /system/etc/security folder.

You can get access to these folders via root explorer a wonderful app now availible to the rooted Dx user

is this for the newest update or if was I not supposed to update. If I wasnt supposed to do the update do I need to factory reset before I try to root

Does anyone know if bootanimations still go in /data/local or /system/media?
I am pretty sure just don't want to mess up.

is there anyone on this forum that lives in birmingham alabama or surrounding area that can do this for me :) I really dont wanna brick this bitch

For some reason i can't get windows 7 64 bit to recongnize the abd file....

I have sorta the same problem. My win7 32 bit will not recognize my phone being connected while debugging is active. So...no adb for me:(

I'd think that if you aren't capable of this root procedure, you probably shouldn't be using a rooted phone.
