Do you still use Facebook? Why?!

Never had a FB and i don't ever plan on getting one o_O
Wait...what?! You mean you're not interested in having your personal info covertly shared, or having facebook track you every time you press their 'like' button anywhere online, and having your password stored as plain text?

You're weird, Bear, weird I tell you!

Does Mark Zuckerberg ever change clothes? I like that.
I pay no attention to him, so I'm ignorant here--does he always look like he's wearing the same thing?

Some people, like chef Robert Irvine, have a trademark 'look'--his includes black t-shirts and blue jeans. The shirts' sleeves strategically cut off so we can admire his huge muscles.

It's the "West Coast, USA" look isn't it? What I might call "scruffy".

Ehhhh. I dunno about that. I live on the west coast and I'd say the look around here is more hipster.
Yeah, me too. Although I try not to notice the size 0 stick figures that pass for women, so I'm mainly focused on cute, young, virile, hot, muscular guys.

Frankly, now that I think about it, I have no idea what they're wearing... :o

Yeah ... kids. And stay off my lawn while you're at it. ;)
I thought about putting a sign up in my yard to keep the adults off my lawn! They're under the impression that their perfect shot of a peacock supersedes my right to no trespassing. :(

I've also thought about charging $10 per photo taken...but haven't figured out how to implement that. Yet.

Poll: Americans give social media a clear thumbs-down

From the article:

"According to the poll, 57 percent of Americans say they agree with the statement that social media sites like Facebook and Twitter do more to divide the country, while 35 percent think they do more to bring the nation together.

Fifty-five percent believe social media does more to spread lies and falsehoods, versus 31 percent who say it does more to spread news and information.

Sixty-one percent think social media does more to spread unfair attacks and rumors against public figures and corporations, compared with 32 percent who say it does more to hold those public figures and corporations accountable.

And a whopping 82 percent say social media sites do more to waste people’s time, versus 15 percent who say they do more to use Americans’ time well.

But those numbers also come as nearly seven in 10 Americans — 69 percent — say they use social media at least once a day.

The negative attitudes about social media are shared by Democrats, Republicans, men, women, urban residents and rural ones.

One variable, however, is age — with younger poll respondents less likely to believe that social media divides the country and spreads unfair attacks and rumors."
Time and time again I see studies showing that people are suffering actual, quantifiable depression, self-esteem issues, sadness, etc., because their real lives aren't anything like the idealized version of others' lives they see on social media. The perfect bodies and perfect vacation photos, perfect smiling babies and perfect kids playing perfect sports...

People KILL themselves over crap like this.

This NY Times article is from December, but wow! Just wow.

A snippet:

"Facebook allowed Microsoft’s Bing search engine to see the names of virtually all Facebook users’ friends without consent, the records show, and gave Netflix and Spotify the ability to read Facebook users’ private messages."

There's more. If you're still using facebook, you might want to read the whole article.

I thought there would be a lot more outrage when it was reported that third parties are able to data mine not only users, but anyone on a user's friends list. So if I'm friends with someone (or they're friends with me), absolutely everything about our lives is being mined for "a more personalized experience". No thanks! I uninstalled the app from my devices... they don't get to track where I go anymore. Awwwww

My new phone won't let me...its OWNER...uninstall facebook and its associated apps. :(

The best I can do, and have done, is 'disable' them.

But it pisses me off that I can't obliterate them from MY PHONE, you know?

Wow, Facebook as a system app? o_O Even Huawei where it came preinstalled (Twitter too) let you uninstall it. I think if I ever got a phone with FB as a system app I'd return it.

I bought the phone directly from Motorola. I expected to see their apps on it, but fb--that can't be removed?

When I was ordering the phone, it asked for my carrier, so I put AT&T (which I had at the time--I've since switched to Consumer Cellular). The phone still thinks it's an AT&T phone. For example, when it restarts it plays the AT&T sound, and several of their apps can't be uninstalled. I know that if I did a factory reset, it would put back all their stuff...probably including fb.

I LOVE the phone and certainly don't regret buying it over the fb issue, but it bugs me that I can't get rid of it.

Fact. And I stand corrected. Jeanine, my unlocked Galaxy Note 9, has Facebook as a system app. So it can't be uninstalled.

But wait - there's more!

Facebook isn't alone as a system app: the phone also has Facebook App Installer; Facebook App Manager; and Facebook Services as system apps. I disabled all four.

Curious, too... because Jeanette, my Verizon-branded Note 8, has none of those.

I'm lucky--mine only has fb, and fb App Manager, both of which I disabled immediately upon seeing them.

I no longer bother rooting my devices, but not being ALLOWED, on my own blanking phone, to remove apps from a company I despise and don't want dirtying my phone, makes me start feeling that rooting itch again.

Yes, but the days when rooted phones were better than stock are, IMO, in the past. Sure, we could root and get rid of such despicable apps... but what we giving up in the process? Banking apps, mobile payments and other functions I use regularly. I'll stay stock... but the second thing I do with a new phone after setting up my accounts is to disable all the bloatware... er, "featured apps".

:D

You're so right--I wasn't thinking, AT ALL, about banking apps, etc., refusing to run on rooted devices. So...out the window goes that idea!

Disabling unwanted apps still leaves them using up space I don't want them to have. But it looks like we're stuck, eh?
