Do you still use Facebook? Why?!

I could just put up all 800 other of my notes on my blog, but that will take enourmous lepts of time and space, wich I really do not have though. I rather stay at low profile and keep them on my comp offline and safe on my notebook.

Just when you're thinking, "it's IMPOSSIBLE to hear more ways facebook invades its users' privacy," WRONG!

Actually, they've been listening to and transcribing users' audio. Even if you opted out:

"Since 2015, Messenger has offered a feature to transcribe voice clips to text, although it is turned off by default. Facebook claims only those who opted in to the feature had their audio clips reviewed by third-party contractors. However, according to its support page, if even one person in your chat has consented to Facebook transcribing the conversation, any audio in the thread would have been translated, regardless of who sent it.

The findings are particularly troubling given that nowhere in Facebook’s support page or terms of service does it indicate that humans would be reviewing the audio. “Voice to Text uses machine learning. The more you use this feature, the more Voice to Text can help you,” the support page reads."

I wonder what's next?!

see, I have facebook, I just don't particularly use it other than a small bit of communication with specific people and reading posts. I've never really been big on posting on it tbh

Another reason I will not do videos of any kind, or even voice messaging online.
I have a high squeeky mouse pitch voice. In my head I sound kind of normal with a thick double accent on where, I roam no matter what though.

If you stay on facebook, you are contributing to the corruption of the democratic process of our national elections.

In other words, you are guilty of aiding and abetting treason.

Period.

I wish I could 'like' that a million times.

And it doesn't matter where you fall on the political spectrum. ALL Americans should want fair and honest elections.

Note to all: Please, let's not turn this into a political slugfest, causing it to be moved to P&CA. I don't go there. Thank you.

Bascially every time you log into facebook, you are just waisting your time also waisting others as well.

It's not just that you're wasting time.

Scientific studies have shown that spending time looking at others' apparently perfect lives is demoralizing, depressing, can make you feel worthless, etc. Who needs that?
Well with the right time and right kind of people, cheerful mostly on my list, you can appericate the happyness around this world. Also my girls fb it is pretty much always constantly happiness too :D

FB hasn't been wasting my time, in fact quite the opposite. Because in the last couple of years via FB I've been able to find some old friends I lost contact with decades ago. In fact we had very happy together in London a couple of weeks ago.

That's great! I'm happy for you.

As long as you're aware of fb's covert activities, and have done what you can to protect yourself, and want to use it, fine. But doesn't it bother you that [as I put in red text in an earlier post] even when you explicitly opt out of something, it can still happen?

Not at all if you opt out of the blue, you can still connect with everyone, I have deactivated my accounts on f.b. every once a while in the past, and still they somehow keep bringing you back somehow. :)

There are ways to wipe your data before you quit. A google search will tell you how.

Mikedt it doesn't directly apply to you but the US and the PRC are so closely financially tied, whoever is running the ship here, affects the economy in Asia. If you like the current trade war, you helped that, if it is affecting your finances (as it is mine) you are partially responsible.

(I assume you are in China by your avatar, forgive me if I'm wrong)

I was only using FB to find and communicate with some friends in the UK!!

Think I'll go and live in cave, and stay off social networks from now on.

I'm out of here. This thread is becoming too P&CA.

Among the many vile, covert things fb does (did?) is reactivate 'deleted' accounts. How? When the person clicks an fb 'like' button anywhere online--any web site, any blog, any...anything, not related to fb in any way, if it has an fb 'like' button and you click it, your fb account gets (got?) reactivated.

The implications of that are many--and very troubling, at least to me.

I too walk the walk, it is so idiotic and draining on seeing how many anti fb web sites and blogs, that have them included within the link. But as an ex web site builder with the like button connection, need to poll in the traffic. So it can be helpful within that remark though. An irony on itself .

Ever heard of AccountKit?

https://www.accountkit.com/faq

This thing popped up when signing into a completely unrelated app and I assumed at first it was part of the apps authentication system not some outside company, certainly not FB!

I guess this thing has been around for ages, but as when I had FB I never used the "login via Facebook" option on any other website I'm not sure.

What information does Facebook receive when I use Account Kit?
If you use your email address or phone number to log in to an app with Account Kit, Facebook will send you an email or SMS confirmation code that you can use to log in to the app. In addition to receiving your phone number or email address, Facebook also receives information about the device you're using as well as other information that app developers may choose to share with us in order to use Facebook tools in their apps. Facebook uses all the information it receives to provide and improve its services, including personalising content, tailoring and measuring ads, and providing a safer experience. Please see our Data Policy for more information about the ways Facebook collects, uses and shares information. Please also review the terms and policies of the app that you're using for additional information about their practices.
