Do you still watch television?

No, not me...I needed parental permission to get married. :)

Ugh...I can't imagine dating NOW!
Eh cyber dated far too long, it seems possible for me though, and I feel confortable with it though, but in the flesh to really get to know them too, I can do either way with anyone. Eh what's the worst could ever happen though, well catfishing too.

we cut that cable.. cut the cord. No broadcast channels.. some internet movies and stuff sometimes. That's it.

It's not an option for everyone but if you have a computer, install a TV tuner card in it or get a TV USB adapter. This gives you the ability to watch online streaming content like you normally do but with the added feature of watching broadcast TV shows too. Get the appropriate tuner card and it will have a minimal impact using your PC's system resources as the card has its own on-board CPU to do the on-the-fly conversions, I'm a fan of Hauppauge PCIe cards:

Most of the time I just have a billion albums downloaded from my youtube music selection, the t.v. is pretty cooled anyway, I do not like to turn it on mostly though. Just sometimes when I am in the mood to do it.

Cable TV is pretty expensive. People had to pay for it because they didn't have alternatives. But today we have the possibility to enjoy watching TV with the help of modern technologies. So, there is no surprise that a lot of people cut the cord. And I'm no exception. I switched to Firestick and I'm pleased with it. I have access to all my favorite content. And with the help of the AppLinked app, I can easily download various apps across various categories, including movies, TV shows, live TV, sports, utility apps, and much more. And one more thing I like about Firestick, I can take it with me when traveling and use it everywhere.
You're making some very good, and valid points. However, for me, DirecTV has fit my needs for 30-ish years, and I still don't have any plans to get rid of it. I don't want the hassle of umpteen different streaming services, and doo-dads, gadgets, sticks, devices, boxes, plugs, remote controls, etc., just to watch what I want!

With my current setup, every room with a TV--and the patio--can access DirecTV and both DVRs. One remote is all that's needed! No fiddling with logging on here, switching cables there, figuring out how to watch the local news or the Lakers games, it's just all in one place. I've had Amazon Prime Video forever and have only used it MAYBE two times. (I only have it because it got added to Prime's features.)

Rico!! I'd heard rumors (via PM) that you were back, and I'm so glad to see you! How the hell have you been?!

As for DirecTV, yep, we're on the same page. If there was a streaming service with near-100% reliability, PLUS live local channels, PLUS live local sports, PLUS all the cable channels I routinely watch, PLUS a whole-home DVR, I MIGHT consider it. Until then, NO!!

Hey there! I am so glad to be back too. Doing great. glad you are too.

I am getting sales pitches right now from my internet service wanting me to switch from DirecTV satellite to stream. but i don't want to risk losing channels or service when the internet goes out. Then again my satellite goes out every time a cloud floats by. I too don't want to risk losing live channels if i use the either streaming products

This place hasn't been the same without you. :)

When I lived in Tornado Alley (Dallas), my DirecTV would go out due to 'rain fade' every time there was a bad storm/tornado coming through. But since moving back home to SoCal, it's never gone out--and that's 15 years and counting! :D

Youre right! Dallas is in Tornado Valley! we lived in Denton back in the 2000s and no basements no storm shelters. When as needed weather reports the most satellite went out. Thats another reason i am leery to go 100%stream. no live reports

Denton! I remember Denton. That's a little north of Carrollton where I owned a house. And the tornado sirens!! I remember them scaring the shit out of my poor mom! She'd come to visit, and all of a sudden there's this horrible screeching alarm going off outside. Having never lived in the south, she had no idea what that was. Meanwhile, after reassuring her about what it was, I went outside and talked to one of my neighbors. We were both like "here we go again... "
