Doctor Who Wifi Hotspot Name = Dead Wifi Hotspot?

migukpabo

Lurker
This is on an LG Optimus V. The phone is rooted and I used the app 'Quick Settings' to enable Wifi Hotspot.

Hotspot worked fine for months/years. Today, I changed the hotspot name from something standard to '┓┏ 凵 =╱⊿┌┬┐' in reference to a recent Dr. Who show. Apparently that was a mistake. Now when I attempt to enable the Portable Wifi Hotspot, I get a 'connection failed' error. Strange, I'm not trying to connect to anything. When I have tried (repeatedly) to go back in and change my wifi hotspot name back to 'John', it is grayed out and I can't make edits...

Any way to get back in and edit hotspot? Or other way to re-enable?

Thanks.

Did you make a backup of your stock ROM with that option in a custom recovery?
If not, STOP.
Before possibly making things worse install a custom recovery and backup you stock ROM/OS.
For more info go to the All Things Root sub-forum/All Things Root Guide sticky/Guides/How to install a flash_image, flash a recovery, ROM, and theme.

When done you will also have more options to fix current problem.

Have you tried to Clear data and Clear cache for the Quick Settings app under Manage apps in Settings first?

Yes, tried clearing data and cache. Did not work. Quick settings unlocks the stock wifi hotspot and redirects to it.. the problem appears to be with the stock portion.

try using foxfi when done, its a no root app for tethering.

yes your rooted, but it seems to work around the stock stuff well, even though im rooted I still use it.

Once that is accomplished: All custom Gngerbread ROMs have hotspot and tethering built in.

The MiRaGe is the best currently for our phone.
