Does anyone use bluetooth for EVO <-> Computer?

This seemed like the most relevant thread in the search, so this is where I'm posting this question. Please redirect as appropriate.

I've got bluetooth transfer enabled both EVO <> Computer, but I can't figure out how to browse the EVO from my computer. Is that not a bluetooth thing? Do I have to set my EVO up as another network place, by enabling WiFi on it?

Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm dumb when it comes to these things. Thanks.

MAC or PC?

i use a PC. when im connected to the evo via BT, i have (i run old school WIN XP PRO) a little BT icon in the system panel (i have a dell laptop). it brings up "My Bluetooth Places". from there i will see all the paired devices. i find the evo, double click and im in the root folder...

if you are on a PC you are probably using win 7 huh? perhaps its different in terms of steps but if you use microsoft go to your bt page on the computer...

Sorry. Vista. Nothing like that. In My Computer I can see the device, but no clicking (left or right) lets me open it up and browse it.

Although I have Windows 7, I was having the exact same issues as everyone else up here. I tried installing new BT stacks on my PC from Broadcom, but they wouldn't install. So I went to my laptop manufacturer's (lenovo) website and downloaded the latest BT drivers (about 2 months old, although I updated the BT driver less than 6 months ago). After installing the new drivers, a few more BT services were installed.

I then attempted to pair my EVO to the PC from the laptop and whalah my EVO is now paired correctly and... (let me check) now when i click on it under the EVO's BT settings, it actually says "Connected to phone and media audio".

Also, when I double click or right click and select properties on the EVO icon under the PC's BT Devices, a sub screen comes up with a full set of options for interacting with my EVO via BT on my PC.

SIGH... AHHHHHHHHHHH...

I've been working on this for several months, so I'm finally glad I solved it!!! Thanks for all the leads... without comments on this board and others, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere!!!!

Just to add a little more here in case you're looking to browse the EVO from your computer, you would need to go into Wireless & networks\Bluetooth Settings\Advanced Settings\FTP Server <--- Put a checkmark in that little box, otherwise you will get "Service not available" error.

My laptop never had problems pushing files to my EVO. I could not push files from my EVO to my laptop however. In my Outbound transfers notifications, I would get "This transfer is forbidden by the target device".

I solved this problem by updating the bluetooth drivers (by googling my laptop model) and voila! Problem solved. I can now send files either direction between my EVO and laptop.
