Help Does flashing a rom change the carrier of a SIM??? Read Below and please answer me!!!

Hi, I am going to explain something, but I know it would not make sense to you guys.
My friend who has a Samsung Galaxy S2 SM-T989D, got that phone from a friend, and I pluged the phone to my computer. The phone was with a cellphone carrier called Telus (In Canada), and the phone got bricked because I was trying to load a JellyBean rom on it because my mom used to have that same S2 (got it from the store, not from my friend shane friend) and my moms old S2 (same model number and everything) had Jelly Bean on it. 4.4. something. Anyways. Shanes phone got bricked and I found another software to flash on his phone and I used ODIN, and not his phone looks like its with T-Mobile (a US carrier). My question is, that, Since his phone was carrier locked with Telus before I flashed a rom and bricked it, does that mean since his phone looks like its from T-Mobile locked with T-Mobile? Does flashing a rom change the carrier of the SIM???

2 things
1)The SIM card determines which network your phone is on.... you can't change this by flashing firmware. Where you may be confused is that some networks will lock the device to their network and prevent other sims from working (until its unlocked),,, some networks will also have firmwares that includes their own network. However if your phone will accept another sim, its the SIM that determines the network.

So you're saying that just because my friends looks like it's from T-Mobile, it is still locked with Telus?

If he has a Telus SIM card in it.... then it won't be on T-Mobile

If it was locked to Telus, and you want to use it on T-Mobile you'll need to unlock the phone so it will accept a new sim card. This Unlocking has NOTHING to do with flashing firmware

I'm not sure exactly where you are seeing T-Mobile, but is it possible you flashed the incorrect firmware? Maybe one meant for a T-Mobile variant of the device?

Can he still make/receive calls and send/receive sms & mms messages?

Bryan706, I am seeing the T-Mobile on my friends phone when ever he turns it off or turns it back on. i am asking this question because he wants to go and activate his phone and I told him I am willing to pay for the activation fee and for the SIM card, but my friend and I weren't sure if the SIM has been chaned to T-Mobile because I flashed a firmware on his Telus phone.

As mentioned, the cell service is in no way related to T-mobile just because of a rom flash. Since you are seeing the T-Mobile startup and shutdown animation, I think it's likely that you installed the T-Mobile firmware/rom onto the device. Where did you get the firmware? From Samsung? Can you post a link to the firmware you used?

You should still be able to activate the phone, but there may be problems with sending MMS messages, etc if the device is running the T-Mobile firmware. There will likely be some incorrect APN settings if this is the case.

Had a look on Sammobile for the firmware and I think I found it:

@OfficialBrony Take a look at the link and maybe try this firmware.
You had a look at Sammobile and you THINK you found it??? You DID find it. This website was my last chance to see if anybody was able to help me. Brian, many thank yous and many more. You have been such great help. You save me money for taking it in to a Telus carrier store and them doing it for me. Yes I had to look at YouTube videos to help me learn to use ODIN, but it was worth it. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
