Root Does installing a new kernel affect dalvik cache?

I am using MIUI currently and after I flashed it I ran the following in a console:

su
a2sd cachesd

A script seemed to run and my phone rebooted. I had loads of free internal memory (like 90MB). I think this dark tremor script moves the dalvik cache to sd but correct me if I am wrong.

Couple of days later I decided to flash the ManU 1.4 kernel, which went ok.

Just checked my memory and I have 40MB left (and I haven't been installing any apps).

So could installing this new kernel have any effect on internal memory?

I tried running:

su
a2sd cachesd

again in the console, and the phone took an age to reboot. But internal memory is still the same.

Note: A2SD+ seems to be working fine as I have 0.98gb of space of which 783MB is free space.

no internal memory or dalvic is not affected by kernal or at least shouldnt be
if a2sd cachesd didnt work then i would imagine something else is using that space

EDIT:

getting fed up of this, got distracted while posting my reply and you beat me too it again

No I didn't install anything - I have 37 "downloaded" apps. A2SD is definately running, I even tried: a2sd reinstall

Maybe I thought I had 90MB free or did have this free before I reinstalled my backed up apps. On Redux I definately had about 90MB free though!

Hmm download cache cleaner from the market and see if that recovers your data?
