Root does nobody have a solution? htc incredible root not working

zmcgee8

Lurker
so i got my incredible and rooted using unrevoked. i did a factory reset because i wanted to use a different gmail account. The phone still has a superuser icon but when i download wireless tether it doesnt work. as if i do not have root access. Rom manager doesnt work because it says i dont have root access so i cant reflash a stock rom. is there any way i can root it again? or anything i can do to flash a stock rom on it? i had a captivate that was locked at the password screen and i used odin to flash it back to stock so i could root. is there any similar method for the incredible? I'm making the move from my iPhone and i screwed up already.

hope somebody has some good news for me...thanks

You shouldn't lose root after a factory reset but clearly something's been affected. Maybe start by trying to reflash clockwork in Rom Manager (top option). Also if you have Titanium Backup, press the problems? button to reload Busybox.

i cant dowlaod rom manager and use it because it says i do not have permission.

My bad, I missed that in the OP. If the above idea doesn't do it, you may need to run Unrevoked again. Hopefully it'll load over the top of your current setup. Absolute worst case, you could RUU then re-root. Hopefully it's an easier fix than that.

Can you access hboot? You might need to restore to a previous backup. You did do a Nand backup before the factory rest, right?

so i downloaded super user from the market (update) and rom manager. when i flash clockwork mod it says "error occured while attempting to run privileged commands" I ran unrevoked again and tried to do it all again and same thing. somebody mentioned ruu. how would i go about doing that? is that the procedure where i format the sd card to fat32 and try to boot the stock rom? because i tried that before and it just freezes with bars down the side. I dont have any back ups or anything because literally right out of the box i attempted the root and then did the factory reset to use a different gmail and i ran into this whole mess. idk if there is a fix for it

Do a search for bars down the side or root problems or brick phone on here and xda. I remmeber reading about the bars issue and that there was a fix but because I never had it, I dont know what it is.

I think it has to do with SLCD vs Amoled.

Just a heads up that xda is currently down for a little bit.... might have to wait a little

If you've already formatted your card to Fat32, I'd start with the PB31IMG method, and if it fails repeatedly, switch to the RUU method using the above thread for both possibilities. If you haven't formatted the card yet, start with the RUU instead.

Once you're back to stock, rerun Unrevoked.
unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.32

You likely will have a clockworkmod folder on your SD card. You may wish to delete that folder before running the tool. Kinda doubt it will matter but it will ensure a new setup and take out on more potential roadblock.

Oh, and this process shouldn't give you the "bars down the side" problem. That previously happened with SLCD Incredibles when using Unrevoked as the custom recovery when rooting. This problem was resoloved however as Unrevoked updated the flash package to be compatible with all Incredibles, so it has become a non-issue.

wooooooo!!! got it up and runnin.....i have a mac so had to use windows xp via virtual machine and do the ruu..... thank you for the guidance people... much appreciated
