Root does rooting delete installed apps?

I'm considering rooting my G2 this weekend and have a couple questions. If I root, will all my apps, settings, etc be deleted? I'm not interested in flashing ROMs, I just want to be able to delete bloatware, take screenshots, overclock, etc.

Also, I can unroot if I need to, right?

If all you do is root, no you wont loose settings, apps etc. to overclock you need to flash a custom kernel, to flash a custom kernel you need a custom recovery. Rom Manager(free from the market) is the best for that. use Titanium backup to remove bloat. I use Drocap2 for screen shots.

Make sure you back up your stock rom before you start deleting bloat, ROM manager does it. then you can TRY a custom rom and go back to stock if you don't like it. (you will like it)

Thanks man. I went ahead an rooted last night not long after asking that question (just kinda went for it). The only real problem I've had is that superuser didn't install correctly and now I can't update, delete or use it.

I wasn't sure what app would remove bloat so I'll give that a shot.

I used the visionary/gfree method from xda for root.

That's what I tried to do but it won't install correctly. Even though it's not installed it shows up in my list of apps in the market. when i click on superuser it only gives me the option to update it (not delete or install). so it kinda looks like it installed but it really isn't.

I know I'm rooted since i'm able to use shootme, etc.

Do you have busybox installed? You can install it using ti backup and clicking the "got problems" box

Don't you need superuser access to use tib? I usually don't recommend this, but im sure that you can find the apk on 4shared.com
