Don't know how to root the s2 (GT-i9100P)

Hello guys,

I have the same problem,

My baseband is I9100PBVKI2

And the kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100PBVKI3

What the file that i can donwload in the download page? The file for the KI2 or KI3?

And can i install the file directly in the phone by SD card? (i dont have a PC here)

After install the file how i can unlock the phone? Its possible to unlock this model i9100 with the app in android market?

You need to download the cfroot ki3 kernel. You will need to use a pc to root as you need to flash the kernel with odin. You can only flash kernels directly with your phone after you have rooted.

The gs2 unlock app should work. However it doesn't work on some newer gs2's for some reason. I wish I could remember where Slug posted the reason and then I'd tell you. Maybe he'll let you know in a bit.

Another way to unlock it is by using one of the online sites to find your unlock code. Its worth giving the app a go as its free from the market and won't do your phone any harm if it doesn't work.

Rooting doesn't change your firmware, it only changes your kernel. So NFC should work fine after rooting.

The gs2 unlock app should work. However it doesn't work on some newer gs2's for some reason.

Put simply, recent firmwares apply a numerical factor, unique to each handset, to the codes contained in the data file. Previously this factor was common to all GS2s, making brute-force cracking a matter of seconds using an open-source program and the processing power of a half-decent graphics card. Now it's virtually impossible.

I suspect so, yes. Odin can't remove a network lock; you can use it to flash an insecure kernel, gain root and try one of the unlocking apps. If yours is a device using the new method though these won't work.

One other newbie question... Once I install a custom rom, can I delete the zip from my SD card?

Its best to instal the rom first as custom roms usually change the kernel as well. So if you flash the kernel first you will have to flash it again after changing rom. You can remove the zips from your phone after you have flashed them. However I like to keep the zip of the rom I'm using on my phone as it can doug you out of a hole if you ever end up in a situation where your backups don't restore properly.

Did you use the KI3 kernel and if so why does it show darknight as the kernel version?? Sorry for my lack of intelligence on this matter but I don't understand. Also what is the checkrom thing - was this something extra that you did or does this show up when you flash the KI3 kernel?

Once I flash this insecure kernel will the warning triangle be displayed on boot and would I need to flash the original secure kernel back onto the phone? The problem is there doesn't appear to be a secure CF-Root-KI3 kernel at the link provided, only the insecure one?

For me, I used the CF-Root first just because it was a very simple way to root the phone. Takes 20 seconds and installs the CW Manager. Once I had it rooted, then I could install my custom ROM and then I flashed the Siyah kernel. I can't say for sure but that might have been what S2Android did also...

Right guys, i've ran into a new problem....After installing villianrom, i wanted some nice eyecandy theme. I found Clearglass s2 1.6 [villian 3.0] theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229723). I've gone in CWM recovery, cleared all cache/davrik etc. I've then used the install .zip and chosen the file (which was located on the internal memory of the phone. This seemed to install perfectly, so i rebooted. Now its stuck in a boot loop. I have tried to reclear any cache and reinstall, but have had no luck.

I know that i can follow this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499) to fix the problem, but i really would like the above theme, so if anyone can find a solution, then i'd be most grateful.

Have you got a nandroid backup? That's you're second option so why did I start there.. Try clearing the caches and then reboot without reinstalling, its worked for me a few times. If that doesn't work its going to have to be restore your nandroid. If you haven't got one, have you got a rom zip on your phone? If so flash that. If not its going to have to be a flash stock firmware with odin job.

Edit: try the stock firmware without wiping first as its meant to be a non wipe. But after that follow the link as that guy knows more than me.
