Don't pre order from Best Buy

I got to BB at 4PM yesterday and I am # 19 on the list. They said they'd call me and make an appt for pick up. Because I'm #19 the guys said he couldn't guarantee me a phone on June 4. But then he basically told me I'd get the phone that day but he wasn't allowed to guarantee it.

Any tips for having the activation fee waived if you're buying it from BB?

Just pre-ordered my EVO at Best Buy. I paid my $50 deposit, they handed me a $50 gift card and they had a sign up sheet with time slots in (I think) 30 minute increments. Everything up until 5:30pm was taken, so I took that time slot.

I asked the sales rep if I could use that $50 gift card on June 4th when I pick up the phone towards the remainder of the purchase price and she said yes. So essentially, the phone is $150.

Maybe also worth mentioning, the sales rep said she was being sent to official EVO training on May 26th.

I got mine from the BB in Costa Mesa, CA. Apparently I am #15, but there was no time sheet or anything. He just said see you on the 4th. So I guess I can come in anytime and as long as there are 15 phones, I'll be good to go.

I live in Weschester County (NY) and the BB I went to is pretty big in size. I asked the Sales rep about a wait time for the EVO on the release date, and he said it's first come first served for those on the pre-order listing, but that they should have more than enough because only 15 people had pre-ordered yesterday. I was the first one today. They also made me purchase a BB gift card for $50 which reserves my pre-order.

Huh? How do you figure that? It still costs $200: the $150 plus the $50 deposit gift card you paid for = $200.. What am I missing? (Also, be sure to add in the $36 activation fee that is waived if you buy online from Sprint.)

... add the extra $100 you'll pay that way up front.

Bic101 - you're probably right... I'm easily confused by things like math

I figured that the $50 deposit that I paid for today went towards the $200. On June 4th, I thought the total would be $150. I then figured that I could use my $50 gift card towards that $150 and only pay $100 (plus the activation charge & tax). So... $50 today + $100 on June 4th. Maybe I'm missing something.

Yes you are!!! That $50 you paid bought you a gift card AND a place in line. You can use that gift card towards the purchase of your new $200 phone($449 out of contract) or you can use it on something else and pay the full $200 on 6/4.
I see a nice government job in your future!!!...;):D:):p

You paid $50 for a gift card which will go towards the $200 price of the phone.......you don't save any money.

Central Ave huh?

So, I went to BB this morning and experienced THE rudest employee EVER!!!! I told him that I'd like to pre-order the EVO and he said "ok" and I asked him if it was guaranteed that I'd get the phone on launch. He said, "I don't know. I ant verify that for you"...and I told him that I was told the store would AT LEAST have enough devices to fill pre-orders. I was calm, but a little perturbed. He then walks away and says "Im not going to deal with you". Gawd, I've never been so disrespected. I was so pissed having driven to Springfield in lunch hour traffic only to face such rudeness.

I ended up going to 'THE SHACK' where the employee was VERY nice and seemed excited for me and my EVO...her upgrade isn't avail. until Sept., so she's a bit jealous hehe. She said that she just got an email about a big conference call this evening...all about the EVO. She also mentioned that this Pre-Order deal was all new w/ the Evo and that she had calls from 6 people this morning who told her they planned on coming in to pre-order. Hell ya :D She was also kind enough to tel me that since Springfield wasn't my neighborhood, she would ship the EVO to the store nearest me. Yay I'm getting excited. Hopefully this post makes sense. I've been typing on my Palm Pre while stopped at traffic lights, etc.

huh? this is wrong. it's not first come first served for those on pre-order. when you pre-order, and get the gift card, this guarantees you a phone on June 4th. as long as you don't walk out of the store empty handed after attempting to pre-order (in other words they don't take $50 from you), then you will get a phone on June 4th.

i called to speak to someone in the mobile department and actually ended up speaking to the manager of the store. i proceeded to ask him about appointments, since i wasn't given one, and he told me they would be calling people back about a week before release to set up appointments. i then asked, "What if way too many people pre-order?" he then proceeded to inform me that he would have everyone on staff to make sure that the pre-orders were fulfilled. so now worries. if you pre-ordered, paid $50 and got a gift card, you will have an Evo 4G on June 4th.

That's unfortunate to hear, but glad you were able to get a pre-order at Radio Shack. I guess it's really a crap shoot on where you go. All of the best buy mobile people in my area (4 different stores) are extremely helpful and accomodating (although, I did go into one best buy the night before the pre-order and the guy didn't even acknowledge any kind of pre-order being available the next day...then, I get home and have the best buy email sitting in my inbox...I would've been the 1st pre-order, if my email had hit my phone in time).

Same here, I was like 5th or 6th bit didn't get a time slot, they just said I would be called...sooo...I hope it's nice and early:D

I Need My EVO NOW!!!

I was #19 and was told I would or would not be guaranteed a phone. But I got a $50 gift card and filled out a 6pm appt. time. So, that means I'll have a phone on June 4th (my bday!)?

I pre-ordered at bestbuy on day one. Don't know what number I am. I read over the paper work I was given and it was very vague. I suppose it would be in everyones best interest, if you intend to go the BB route, to pre-order as soon as possible. I say this because the paper work says nothing about being guaranteed a device. Right now there is a bit of a he say she say situation in dealing with BB so it's better to be safe than sorry. Early bird gets the EVO. ;)

I pre-ordered today at a BB mobile store in the mall near my house, and was told, that their store will get enough phones to cover all pre-orders they take, so if you pre-order you will get one on June 4th.
