Don't Update to 2.2?!?

So, I exchanged my Evo this afternoon at a Sprint Authorized Dealer (not a Corp store, but one of the big, main Sprint Authorized Dealer stores, so not a whole in the wall either). For the curious, I was having the phone power cycles whenever GPS is hit issue.

Anyway, after activating, I got the 2.2 Froyo notification and asked if they had public Wifi so I could download it faster. The repair guy told me NOT to update it because they were having so many issues. He went so far as to say that if I updated to 2.2 and had ANY issues with the phone, he wouldn't process a TEP exchange for me.

I thanked him and left...then updated it. I figured I can go to another store if necessary (hopefully it will never be necessary) and, worst case, accidentally drop it and process it under insurance instead. Still...kinda weird.

If you have any problems with the update, check these forums. Don't bother with any sprint store. we know more than they do :)

I would have to second that. I have learned a ton here and with people like the seemingly everpresent EarlyMon (among others) so willing to help, you can't go wrong. Pay no mind. :D
 
First of all if u weren't on 2.1 I think you'll be fine as you didn't experience the snappyness of it

With that being said I think it's about preference. 2.2 has flash which is awesome but you sacrifice browser speed (along as you set plug ins to on demand its not too bad). Also love the flashlight and and light on camcorder

agree with this...

that guy sounds like a complete idiot that knows absolutely nothing.
 
it is an official OTA update for legally purchased, device and software provided by the MFG and authorized by sprint. it would take only 1 call to sprint CS, they would simply refer you to a real store.

just one question, why would you do business with a store like that anyway? why support that kind of nonsense?
 
F that i would have updated it right in front of him and then told him if there was a problem he was gonna fix it. what a tool to tell you not to update it to an OFFICIAL UPDATE lol thats a good one for today
 
What an ass.. lol like someone else said its their frickin software.
Thats like a BMW salesman saying "If you get your BMWs oil changed with us, your warranty is void, because our oil sucks."

Basically, he was telling you his preference. He doesnt like 2.2

And yes, Demo burn said to do it right in front of him... LOL i would have too.

It was there before - and it's light dependent (not meaning it gets better with more light, it just gets worse with less). It's caused by the use of the crappy MPEG4 codec and a low bitrate (and even with a high bitrate, you can only get so far with that codec).

Right now, the 480p video using H.264 - generations later and motion-optimized compared to MPEG4 - is far better than 720p. I'm using strictly 480p myself, fwiw.

The H.264 codec is new for us and, so far I know, we're the first to get that in Android (others, such as the iPhone have had it for years). The best we can do is wait for that part of the 720p system to upgrade to H.264 and get that in an incremental upgrade.

That's all there is to that one.
