Dorimanx kernel - Dummies Guide

Waiting for your opinions butty :) As i don`t want to be guinea pig (had problems with previous version of Dori). I`m really happy with Siyah b5 so it has to be really good kernel to leave Shiyah...

Oh.. cheers Twinn! This weeks cannon fodder is.... ironass!

Don't expect an immediate assessment from me, unless it is totally useless. ;)

As I have mentioned before, I haven't had a good experience with Dorimanx since mid January with v7.43, so it will be interesting to see how 8.9 fairs after the developer has lauded it over on xda.

UPDATE

Video Player, (MX Player), works well

Stock camera and video player OK

Music, (PowerAmp), no problems.

No stutter or lag on scrolling or menus

Wakey! Wakey! you lot! :aetsch:

Dorimanx kernels, 8.10 & 9.10 are up! :)

8.10 = JB/ICS CM/AOKP/STOCK
9.10 = JB CM/AOKP ONLY

"Fixed the low MEM SOD bug.

kernels from 8.2/9.2 -> 8.9/9.9 DELETED! they all had the BUG in RAM.

Change Log:

*Updated Module loading code to MAX from 3.9.y Kernel.
*Found that we have 3 sorts of CPU chips! so now voltage for all is EQUAL.
*Fixed Low MEM SOD. now LMK work as should, and kill apps that eat most of RAM to give it to one that running as main. i cant SOD my device any more.
before the FIX, i was getting SOD if i open 5 games or more.
*Reduced WIFI version to one that JB STOCK KERNEL using but fixed the battery drain be wakelocks.
*WIFI toggle fixed but not 100%! still in some condition, i have to press 2 or 3 times. i am still searching! it's not in WIFI driver it self, it's in system.
*Ported some good code from SG3 kernel by halaszk!
*Updated to 3.0.70 Main Stream!
*Voku made changes in Nightmare GOV, reduced function that can be unstable.
need to TEST the Nightmare gov.
*Removed hack to fix accelerator for ICS, only in 9.X branch! (9.x not support ICS any way!)
*Tuned Cortex to give more tight memory management as default kernel.
But i dont think that it's important.

Dorimanx kernels, 8.11.1 & 9.11.1 are up! :)

"Kernels 8.11.1 + 9.11.1 ONLINE. (EDIT! SMALL FIX)

ICS support is DEAD! last working kernel for ICS is 8.1 time to update people!
there is no turning back!

Change LOG:

*Tuned and fixed the lowmemkiller code + patch by voku that will help in better
LMK process.
*Pulled commit from 3.9.y for fixing the overflow suggested by voku!
*Fixed big BUG in OOM for init service.
*Some more updates to RAM code from 3.9.y
*Big update to code structure from 3.9.y (see git, the module to export)
*File system write back trace code, was missing for full sync to RAM code.
*Tuned cortex OOM code to rest at screen off to save more battery power!

(8.11.1 + 9.11.1)
*Fixed kernel check for 9.x branch
*Fixed lost modules of all kind of SOUND MODS that use there own modules.ko, i was deleting them OPPS! for very long time now...
not any more!
So if you are using any kind of this mods, reinstall it, just in case after this kernel.

After many tests now kernel works great with lowmemory killer
no more slowdowns and we can multi task with full speed and exit apps and go to next app without long delays.

have fun, and report how it's feels.

wifi toggle still bugged,

ICS is no longer SUPPORTED!

and in next release of 8.X kernel, i will remove all that belong to ICS to free the code from hacks that gave support to ICS till 8.3 kernel version!

for ICS use 5.X or 7.X or 8.1!

this is final statement!

ICS is DEAD! End of LIFE.

Are u still testing any of those ver ironass? U mentioned about giving some opinion after few days... ;)

Don't expect an immediate assessment from me, unless it is totally useless. ;)

In the past 4 days there have been 4 releases from Dorimanx!

The first one has been withdrawn. My findings: Immaterial now.

The second has been replaced. My findings: Not as good as Siyah but needed more time.

The third one has been replaced. My findings: Didn't even get to flash v8.11

The fourth has only been out for 10.5 hours! My findings: Too soon to say.

During the last 48 hours I've also been rigorously testing some new modems as well. ;)

any new modems worth flashing ?

I will be investigating the effect that this has on the taste!

Should be able to report on all findings in the next few days. ;)

OK... it's official, I'm back in love with Dorimanx again... the kernel, not the developer!

For those of you who haven't read through this thread, shame on you, I cannot say that any Dorimanx release since v7.43, way back in January, has been any good for me and I had given up on using the Dorimanx kernel.

However, all that has changed with the release of Dorimanx v8.11.1.

I have had this kernel on for 36 hours with NEAT ROM LSJ and it is. IMHO, certainly as good as Siyah 6.0beta5. Both in terms of battery and performance. No lags or freezes or S.o.D's. I have been running it on extreme_battery profile in conjunction with STweaks, see post #1, with only the following altered... MAX CPU FREQUENCY 800MHz and BLN enabled.

I realise that this is an extreme, extreme_battery setting but I do not play power hungry/CPU hogging, games on my phone. These settings are good enough for music play back on PowerAmp player and HD videos on MX Player. These settings easily give me my personal goal of 28 hours+ with moderate use, for me.

The stock JB Power Saving setting seems to be over written by this kernel but that does not detract from the battery saving. The only thing I would mention is that the Wi-Fi toggle problem that has plagued this kernel, still persists and means that you will need to go to Settings > Wi-Fi and try 2 or 3 times to toggle it on or off.

I have not tried the Dorimanx 9.11.1 version of the kernel as yet because I would need to flash an AOKP ROM for this but I cannot see any reason why it should not prove just as good.

Now for an ironass caveat!

I started off by stating that this version of Dorimanx was as good as Siyah 6.0beta5... and so it is. However, I am on NEAT ROM LSJ and have found that Siyah 6.0beta4, developed specifically for the LSJ release by gokhanmoral, is better for me than the beta5 version. Not by much, I agree... but IMHO, it is better. The same is true, for me, of the Dorimanx 8.11.1 release. Having said that, if you re on a non LSJ release, then give it a go as I do not think you will be disappointed.

Thx for your opinion butty :) will give it a go tonight...

Edit

Smooth start and even more options in stweaks :)

Dorimanx kernels, 8.12 & 9.12 are up! :)

Dorimanx 8.X is for stock, Samsung based, JB ROM's

Dorimanx 9.x is for CM/AOKP JB ROM's

"Change Log:

*New Video Driver Update(MALI V2) from CM-KERNEL (arrived from NOTE device)
*Ported all code updates to INPUT driver that connected to touch screen!
all commits from 3.9.Y kernel and updated to MAX + All android needed things preserved!
*Voku ported the 3.0.71 Main Stream patch, many things fixed.
*Voku ported code patch for NET.
*I have tuned all profiles to reduce wakeup lag and balance performance/battery.
*I have set wifi scan time out to 15sec as default! (can be tuned in STweaks)
*Made changes in INIT scripts, logic changes.

kernels 8.11.1 + 9.11.1 are declared as STABLE RELEASE!

this new build should be GOOD as was, and maybe even nicer in daily use.

Ironass....Thanks for this awesome thread...its great knowledgebase
Need help in understanding the difference between dorminax kernel versions?
While dorminax version 8.xx supports JB/ICS CM/AOKP/STOCK 9.xx supports only JB CM/AOKP . Then isnt 8.xx better as I can use all roms on it?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums alok_dhawal! :)

As per post #454, Dorimanx no longer supports ICS on his latest kernel releases and as per post #462 above, the kernel versions have been split, thus...

Dorimanx kernels, 8.12 & 9.12 are up! :)

Dorimanx 8.X is for stock, Samsung based, JB ROM's

Dorimanx 9.x is for CM/AOKP JB ROM's

Wifi toggle bug is so annoying for me that i reverted back to Siyah 6b5 ;)

You mean, you toggle Wi-Fi off Twinn? ;)

(I'm such a waster... I never bother!)

For those of you who don't know... there is a minor glitch in toggling Wi-Fi on and off in Settings > Wi-Fi and it takes 2 or 3 goes.

On the plus side... Dorimanx 8.12 in conjunction with NEAT ROM LITE LSN has been on my phone for 30 hours with battery to spare. :)

No lags, freezes, FC's or S.o.D,s so far. :thumb:

What about changing location of my sd card and usb storage? it`s diffrent on dori. thats a feature or whats the point ?

You just had to talk me into it, didn't ya.....

Do you mean for CWM back-up's Twinn?

Yes, on Dori dir paths are changing automaticly. It`s not a big issue (had to define new path in TB, downloads and few other places) when changed, all worked fine but... On Siyah i had no issues at all so i might come back to Dori when at least wifi toggle is fixed ;)

Given it a blast. Gone back to my old favorite combo ;-)

tut tut. just can't get the staff these days.

Too right you can't!

No download link! No source link! Not highlighted the kernel release! No quotation marks around the change log! No italics for change log!

I suppose I should just be glad that you didn't do it in Welsh!
