Root Download Speeds?

I don't really know what download speeds other people get on Virgin Mobile, and I just wondered if you guys could post your average download speeds and the rom you are getting those speeds on. My average speed is around 30 kbps :(

I use MTDEV CM9, which I love :D

Virgin mobile's network is so slow, you would think they wouldn't have to cap your speeds if they are already crappy :D

Same here, at least after I've hit my cap. Before the cap, its anywhere from 100kbps to 160.
I'm running the latest mtdev cm9

It doesn't matter which ROM you're running.
Network speed varies usually depending on the traffic on it.
Since vm is the red headed stepchild prepaid sprint brand we are usually lowest priority:(
The cap has never intimidated me since average speeds (for me) usually stay between 100-250 kbps before & after 2.5 gb throttle on average.
Every so often, i'll get spikes up to 1 mbps very late at night.

I always run between 250 and 800... 500-600 right now. Throttling hasn't changed either time I got the text. Any ROM is always the same.

If you are on 1X connection most of the time, there's a way to quick fix it. But this fix only works on stock ROM and it will be set back to default after restart. Not sure how to fix it on CM9 or CM7.

1. Enter ##INFO#
2. Go to Phone Information
3. Scroll all the way down and you will see CDMA (PRL Only). Change that to EvDo.
5. It'll become 3G. If it doesn't, turn radio off for 5 seconds. Turn back on. It'll always be 3G.

I don't know how to do this in CM7 or CM9 is because the dial pad codes are not working there.

In Cm7:
Wireless & Networks-> Mobile Networks-> Network Preferences
Just be aware that if your phone is locked in evdo only, you will not receive calls or be able to send/receive SMS texts until you re-enable
Cdma. Evdo is data only.

I do this if I'm downloading a ROM and don't want a phone call to interrupt a long download.

Thanks. Totally forgot to mention that.

After traveling around for a while, I've realized that my phone switches to 1x after about 10 minutes, dropping from 300 kbps to about 30. Switching airplane mode on and off seems to bring the 3g back, but only for another 10 minutes. I know this is an issue on the stock rom. Does anyone else have this problem on the latest MTDEV CM9?

I used to get anywhere from 250 kbps to 1.5 mbps download & 200-500 upload depending on time of day, location & network load. Bottom line, VM's 3G network is highly, highly variable & often sucky, maybe because Sprint traffic is given priority (or so I've read). The ROM never seemed to make much difference, at least after g60madman posted the CM7 data speed fix (already in g60 Style & newer I think).
