Help downloaded items

Wer does downloaded items go?
For example, if i downloadd apps from the market place where does the downloaded app go before it gets installed and what happens after it gets installed? Does it get deleted automatically??

If i downloaded movies and mp3s where does it go?

Do all downloads go automatically to the sdcard?
