Droid 3 cases

i just got an email this morning telling me that the droid 3 commuter series otterbox has arrived. on the website it is not up yet though.

edit: it's on the website now. just ordered mine. i'll put up impressions once it arrives

Where did you purchase this? I have the extended battery, and 2 useless cases as they don't fit :(
Id really like to pick up a case that fits the extended battery so any help would be appreciated :D
I bought it from my Verizon Wireless store (sells for $30, but can be less if you have a discount with them on accessories). I hooked up the case to my phone today and it's great. It comes w/ 3 pieces. One for the back, a small plastic frame for the front, and then a holster to put the phone into. The box claims that it also works w/ an extended battery, but I can't test that out since I just have the stock battery. I'm really happy w/ the case so far. Time will tell how durable it'll be.

I see Otterbox is selling a case for $35. I think the VZW one is a much better deal since it includes a holster and a kickstand. Granted, the Otterbox supposedly comes w/ a screen protector, but one can buy that for several bucks elsewhere. The kickstand is a really neat feature of the VZW case.

Any idea how well this works with the Vehicle dock?

Thanks

According to this review of VZW's extended battery (which I'll copy and paste below in case the link doesn't work), the VZW holster/case I bought is compatible with the extended battery.

The extended battery does add to the life, and at the same time is not a noticeable difference in the weight and thickness of the Droid 3. The holster with kickstand still fits it perfectly.

Pros

longer battery life still works with the holster w/ kickstand

Cons

wish the battery had even longer life

I visited the Verizon store today. They were kind enough to snap both the blue plastic case and the holster shell case onto my Droid 3 with extended battery and cover. Both cases fit fine. I was able to try the phone with holster case in the vehicle dock and it worked more or less. It's not as secure as the phone either without a case nor as snug as the phone in the rubberized case, but it's workable. I own the rubberized case but it definitely did not fit properly with the extended battery installed. I ended up purchasing the holster/shell case. I like that it's not nearly as bulky as the rubberized case, and feels like it will protect the phone if I drop it. Also, unlike the rubberized case, the power and volume buttons are exposed, so they are much easier to push than in the rubberized case. Overall very happy so far.

I mentioned in another thread here that I picked up the OEM shell/hoslster combo with kickstand for Droid 3 from VZW today. On the box, it says, "Works with extended battery & multimedia station".

Anybody able to use the multimedia station with the shell/holster combo case on the phone? I can't seem to get mine to work together. I removed the inner piece on the mutimedia station but it still does not seem to fit.

Perhaps ask the VZW store folks if they know if it's compatible like that. Good luck!

Just got the Otterbox case today. Came with a screen protector which was a surprise because I didn't realize it included one. The case is pretty nice, but it is a bit awkward in that the front snap on frame thing and the back half of the case don't line up.. On the right side of the case they are lined up, but the left side of the phone it's like the back half sticks out to the left more and the front half is more inward.. so like one side of the case is flush and the other side has like an underbite.. lol
It just seems like the case could have been more shapelier for lack of better word..
Also it does not fit with the extended battery :( .. I geuss you could pull it off because it kinda gets on there, but it doesnt fit right and the case kinda just hangs there and its not all the way on... really a bummer. It is like impossible to find a case that you never have to take off isn't it.

I'm very happy w/ the VZW case/holster combo so far. It has a kickstand (so damn useful!) and is supposedly big-battery friendly. Not to mention the detachable/attachable holster.

I just received my Qmadix case today.
Amazon.com: Qmadix QM-HLMTXT862-SO Motorola Droid 3 Snap-On Cover with Holster - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I usually hate cases, but this one is great. Has a not too bulky and has a great feel too it. I don't know how much i'll use the holster... but when its in there the phone is really protected. Some of the reviews on amazon said the piece on the screen interferes with the top row #'s just a hair, but I have not noticed this at all (I typed just numbers with it on and off and I thought it was fine). The holster slip rotates 180 degrees. Great case AND great price. (I never buy accessories from VZW. TOO EXPENSIVE -_-)

Not bad, but it doesn't seem to have the kickstand, so not quite the same thing as the VZW version. But good find for someone who wants a cheap case/holster and doesn't care about the kickstand.

I'm currently using the kickstand on my phone, BTW. I can't believe how useful that is when I'm sitting down in front of a desk.

ah ic. didn't know it had a kickstand. I have a tablet so in most situations I wouldn't really wanna watch stuff on my phone, so no need for a kickstand for me :-P.

Yeah, since you have a tablet, I can see the kickstand not having merit. For me, I never had a phone w/ a kickstand, although my previous phone (LG enV Touch) had a case that would let me watch the inner screen at a 45-deg. angle. The kickstand of the OEM case/holster rocks and can be used both portrait and landscape modes. I haven't used the holster part as much as I thought I would.

Actually the qmadix does have a kickstand but there is a design flaw that the phone with the case on it will not go in the holster with the screen facing out.

Cool that the qmadix also has a kickstand (I assume it works for both portrait and landscape modes). VZW's OEM case/holster also requires the screen to be facing in when in holster mode. That did seem a little odd, but it's not hard to remove the phone from the holster to use it and it seems pretty secure while it's in the holster.

I purchased the OEM VZW black snap on gel cover. This is soft and grippy, feels great in my hand and will protect the phone from bumps. It will fit in the leather pouch that came with the phone. I got it on Amazon (from mazal wireless) for $9.99+shpg. The VZW item # is MODRD3SILB. I'm too new to post a link. Really like this cover.
