Droid Bionic? My next phone

this phone does indeed look sick. I am looking forward to the specs on the thunderbolt, and the features associated with the newer version of htc sense, then i will have to make up my mind, since i am not really a fan of motoblur at all, and i have been using launcher pro lately so the stock user interface doesn't mean much to me these days.
 
I'd love to get my hands on one of these, but I'm not due for an upgrade until Jan 2012, and if i sold my incredible there would still probably be a $300 difference coming out of my pocket.
 
Looks like an Incredible from Moto, with a few tweaks. You know it's a good design when everyone copies it!
 
I can't find any info on the type of screen this phone will have. I'm guessing slcd, though. Anyone else dig that up?
 
Running a Droid 1 now that I got on launch day and I'm ready for this one.

My concerns:

1. What type of screen?
2. What kind of battery life?
3. Will it be able to be rooted and hopefully run Cyanogen?
4. Will it use the same microUSB as the Droid? (I think I saw it does)
5. Will it handle loads of apps where my Droid has trouble at 256MB?
6. Will it have decent localized audio?
7. When will it ship?
8. What will it cost me in an upgrade if that's still an option?

Well, I assume that all of us that bought the origional Droid the day it was released back November 2009, will be up for next discounted phone same time as me, which is this July(2011). I'm excited to see what the latest/greatest will be by then. Looks like it will be between the Bionic(which I think is a stupid name, btw) and the HTC Thunderbolt. But, I don't think the full specs are out on either of them yet, so still a wait and see game. And, who knows, by July maybe there will be yet another great Android that hasn't even been pre-announced yet?!?!?!?!

Guess, we'll be staying tuned.....
 
I think Droid Bionic sounds pretty decent....

the Droid eris was a dumb name to me but
the droid Bionic makes the phone sound kind
of computer futuristic
 
These names sound ridiculous because you have foreign manufacturers guessing at what they think will wow American consumers.

Look at Japanese pop culture. Lots of silly things come out of there:

"Super Pro Human Asteroid 9000!"

(I just made that up, but I bet I got three of the names right for some existing--and likely top selling--product in Asia)
 
The names dont bother me...it helps keep it differentiated but it's the Droid/Android thing that bothers me lol...

it's just hard explaining to people that Droids are Androids...My friend last night talked about upgrading his phone and getting a droid...Oh, i was like I thought you liked At&t. Your're switching to Verizon?

He is like no....I'm getting an At&t droid phone...the droid xperia...It took 10 minutes to explain to him the similarities and differences....

But i do hate sprint's name...I guess Evo is there new brand??
 
this will be my next phone for right now until something else comes out on verzion i was looking at the Thunderbolt but i like this one better:D
 
I don't like that this thing doesn't have a gyroscope (lame) and that the Droid X had a locked bootloader. If this phone turns out to be like the X, I won't get it. I love to tweak my phone and locked bootloaders are the ultimate FU to the consumer.

I also hate that it has only 512 MB RAM, but whatever. I'll wait 60 days after this is released to see what people and the devs say about it.
 
What does a gyroscope add to functionality. Does that mean you won't be able to move phone around to play games and such.
 
I'm one of the first day Droid owners, and I've loved every minute of it. The good thing about it is that it being a truly open source phone, each new phone that's come out hasn't made me feel envious. With every new ROM I flash, it's like getting a whole new phone, as fast and functionable as any new technology. But this phone def has me thinking that I finally found my OG Droid's successor.

And being rooted, I def have concerns about the locked boot loader. I don't know how much it's hurt the Droid X's dev community, but I do believe they're still flashing ROMs, just not kernels. I don't think OCing the Bionic is going to be an issue as it's poised to be the fastest phone on the market, however.

And Carmen, that's what I love about the Droids. They're manly. No bedazzling these beasts. lol
 
The qHD screen resolution is 540x960, the iPhone is 960x640 and they call it Retina so really its just a slightly larger than qHD. The Bionic beats the iPhone with HDMI out, you can simply buy a cable for $5, with Apple is $30-35 and its proprietary, Bionic you can place the internal/external storage on the desktop and move files around, Apple you HAVE to use iTunes which is a bloated app with constant updates that will hamper your phone if you don't. Bionic you can wipe and restore your data, apps just about anything with the App Store and Google contacts, calendar, email and corp sync. Apple you need a computer and cable connected to Jobs proprietary control center that decides if your phone is a $600 paperweight or now oh and don't forget Apple can nuke your phone remotely including specific apps if they so choose, Motorola doesn't (Google could but has only removed apps from the store and stated why, unlike Apple).

I owned an iPhone, I use a Macbook and I am a tech/gadget junky in pursuit of the best available (in my budget) today, Android meets those criteria.

I think I love you. I've not found a single woman that has an Android phone around here that knows half as much as what your post explains. :P

This phone is definitely taking my upgrade. I was thinking of the Thunderbolt, but here we are with the Bionic. PERFECT upgrade for the OG Droid, IMO. I'm going to miss root, though.

The Bionic is definitely my next phone though
