Help Droid Bionic powering on by itself...

hikerguy

Newbie
Has anyone come across a fix to prevent the Droid Bionic from powering itself back on?

My wife and I both bought the Bionic when it first came out and both of us have experienced this phenomenon (several times). We are sure we are selecting the power off option. We have set our phones back to factory default settings with no change. After researching this problem, I see it's happening on both the Bionic and X. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Not the same but if I have mine plugged into a none Moto wall charger it will wake up from sleep, go back to sleep, wake back up etc. on it's own. If your plugged in try it with the oem charger.

Have you tried to reload the OS? It almost sounds like a hardware issue on the phone as a glitch could cause it to power on. hard to think it could be software related.

This has only happened to me while unplugged. Not sure when it has happened to my wife's phone.

My Bionic has a different problem. Instead of powering itself back on it actually powers itself off and have also rebooted without warning. It only does this while running on battery and my battery is usually fully charged or 50% charged since I have to keep charging it because it switches from 4G to 3G quite frequently. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The only way it can power itself on is if it didn't actually turn off when you told it to. Basically it hung on shutdown, the screen turns off and some time later it kernal panics and reboots.
Might also do it if you have flakey power to it from the charger, wall outlet or electric co.

The only fix I found was to root and flash a custom ROM (such as Theory ROM). If you don't want to root, I guess the only fix is to wait for Motorola to patch the bugs.

Rant: the Bionic is the most glitchy phone I've ever used. They need to release stable phones every 4 months instead of releases POS's every 2 months. If it wasn't for Theory ROM, I would be so pissed off. Hopefully, Google will be able to steer Moto back into the right direction.

Had mine for about 2 weeks now and haven't seen a glitch yet. Best phone for me yet.

Had mine for 7 weeks today, and I've experienced almost no glitches. Camera works, beautifully, Video recording at 1080p is pretty damned good (especially for video taken in a car dock doing 80 on the interstate), no reboots, good battery life (extended, of course)....

And I'm only rooted - not ROMmed. Only thing I have done so far to customize it is freeze 20 native apps that I don't use.

I've lost connectivity a few times, but airplane mode solves that. I've have to manually reboot the phone twice due to connectivity issues - that's it.

In just under 50 days of ownership, I'm happy with the phone. Still looking at getting Galaxus (my new name for the Galaxy Nexus) but this phone is doing awesomely all on its own.

Probably gonna drop a ROM on it tonight, seeing as I just updated to .893.

My Bionic is alos rebooting on its own while not plugged in. Has happened atleast a half dozen times while not in use. I usually dont notice until i hear the boot animation sound(which is getting old). My first launch day Bionic was built horribly. Now this second Bionic is now doing this issue and also random freezes. But not as mich as the reboots

All of you that are rebooting - several questions:

1) Are you rooted?

2) Is the phone possibly overheating?

3) Do you have pocket detection turned on?

4) Are you using a case of any kind, or are you simply putting it in your pocket?

Please answer individually by quoting this post - thanks. I'm going ot try to help you all out by trying to find some common factor (if any) - We may need to go as far as checking IMEs or even other factors.

Yes rooted.

Phone does not feel hot at all.

Pocket detection turned off. Never used it.

Using an Incipio Feather case. Rarely in my pocket.

This my second Bionic 2 weeks old. First Bionic release day did not have this problem.

Johnlgalt, I am having this problem. My phone is not plugged in when it happens and when I turn the phone off, the battery is usually at 50%.
1- not rooted
2- phones not hot
3- pocket detection is turned on.
4- using tpu extended battery case with factory extended battery. also placing phone in pocket.

Wondering if the upcoming ota update will resolve this issue?
Any help would be great!

i got my bionic on release day. had 4 random reboots during the 1st two weeks, one in the middle of a phone call. i just assumed it was one of those little bugs that would be addressed in the maintenance update. i removed handcent, the facebook app, and a stupid little game simleypops from the phone because i was irritated with them for various reasons, and guess what! no more random reboots. i'll go knock on wood now and hope it never happens again.

Did you use a battery case in either (or both) cases?

... Thom

i originally had the shell/holster from verizon on it, but switched to the incipio case several weeks ago.

I am pretty sure it is a software issue. I've had this problem with 2 Bionics, but ever since I flashed a custom ROM (Th3ory ROM), I haven't had one problem. I've been using custom ROMs for about a month now, and not one reboot or "turn itself on".
