Droid Bionic Processor and Screen Size

Will it be 1.2Ghz Dual-Core or 1.0 Ghz Dual-Core?

It's possible that it'll be underclocked as well.

Omap processors in the past (Original Droid) had a lot of potential to be overclocked.

Also, screen size. 4.3" or 4.5"

Is 4.5" too big or just right?

What do you guys think?

FCC report shows processor as up to 1ghz so looking like 1ghz dual core and seems like it will be 4.3 inch from dimensions of fcc. But nobody knows until a unit is out or they officially announce it.

Well, if it really is 1GHz, then it makes sense that the SGS2 will come later with a higher clock speed. But I'm not sure they can still call it the Bionic unless it completely blows the other phones out of the water, and I don't see any indication that this will be a better option than the SGS2 (unless you figure LTE, which I imagine they are).

1gb ddr2 memory will make it fast even if it is blur'd. No lte is a no no for me thats why i wont go with samsung. That and I had a fascinate and the updates and issues they nnever fixed turned me off from samsung. If u like the sgs2 go get it. This phone will compete spec for spec with any other dual core out there.

There are a few things I must have in my next phone:

1. Front facing camera

2. LTE capability

3. 4.3in screen (minimum)

4. Dual core processor

5. 1GB ram (minimum)

6. 16GB SDcard (minimum)

I'm feeling more confident that the Bionic will fit my needs, however I won't be upgrading until after the first of the year so if something bigger/faster/better is available then, that's the direction I will go.

I have an "X" now and am extremely happy with it so I have no problem keeping it until the right phone (for me) is available.

I am still not getting the LTE need ATM, since the current LTE chipsets are power hungry. Factor in problematic results unless in strong coverage, it seems a tech best served for second generation chipsets and a more mature network.

Folks were buying the current 4g devices to "lock in" 4g, which proved pointless, since VZW does not differentiate between 3g and 4g in contracts. I did try to warn folks about this, but can not blame them not listening to me, since I ain't VZW.

dirk,

We should start to see second generation LTE chipsets around the beginning of 2012.

The problem is the 2 year contract, I have an OG Droid and I can't survive much longer with this phone.

LTE isn't 100% amazing but I think the current issues are more based on current phones than the chipset.

We can only go by what we have. There have been three separate LTE chipsets from HTC, LG and Samsung, with all having power and stability issues for signal. Seems it is the first generation blues.

I think the OMAP4 processor in Bionic is better to be at 1Ghz if its screen size is 4.5". If it's 1.2 or 1.5Ghz OMAP4 like once rumored, I can see battery life being serious issue with LTE.
The first thing Bionic has to show is decent battery life at least on par with Charge. Then maybe reliable 4G LTE connectivity.

Sticking with the opinion it has a 4.3" display and 4430.

The differentiators for the likely $300 price will be LTE, 1gb ram and a 16gb microsd.

LTE, faster chipset and a 4.5" display would be battery and cost foolish for VZW.

Agree I think it will be4.3. Unless moto really figured out how to get decent battery life which i doubt. But i guess we will see in a few weeks at most hopefully.

I never heard of anyone trying to "lock in 4g" like you stated. I heard of people locking in unlimited data. Also people like me who live and work in areas with total 4G coverage have no interest in waiting when we can get a 4G phone and be using it for months before the second generation 4g phones comes out.

Maybe it makes you happy to think others made the wrong choice? Anyway there will always be a better phone on the way regardless of how long you wait.

If that's true, that would be great. It's after the 1st of next year when I'll be seriously starting to look for my next phone. Thanks, hope you're right,

I don't know about the LTE chips just being first generation and thus having issues.

And I think he was mentioning the fact that a lot of people picked up TBolts to lock in unlimited 4G even though 4G isn't coming to their area for 6+ months away.

I also think it is somewhat humorous due to the fact that my friend did the exact same thing and isn't too happy with his decision.

Hate to spoil your humor but the majority of the people who got these phones got it because they want 4G now. After that there were some people who wanted to lock in the unlimited data plans. That proved to be a smart move. A small minority of people maybe thought there would be different pricing plans for 3g and 4g. That still does not change the fact that next year the 3rd generation 4g phones will be better than the Bionic and other second generation phones. Then after that we will get better phones still. My point is its silly to feel superior because you waited while the earlier adopters enjoyed 4g for months just because the second generation phones will be more powerful. Even after you waited all that time as soon as you get your more powerful phones there will be more powerful ones on the way.

There are tons of threads/posts where people bought the current 4G devices to lock in 4G- (I did not say everyone did for this reason). The "revelation" that 3G/4G are the same contract pricing was confirmed recently and I proposed this was the case a few months ago, due to comparing both 3G and 4G contract wording for data.

To conject I am glad others got the the 4G devices and may have chose wrong is presumptuous and silly.

Purely stating facts: The current LTE radios consume 50% more power (for the radio portion of total usage weight), the network is not mature and no true on the fly data switching. If a device comes out with 4G and suits needs and is not a battery sucking mess- cool.

Some of us common folks will not see 4G for "a while", so enjoy your 4G and be thankful the network gods smile upon you. A lot of us must have done something wrong and may need to sacrifice a few Incredibles and Droid 1s to make the gods happy.

If you had read my post I said specifically that I found it humorous that my FRIENDS who bought a 4G phone in an area that won't have 4G for 6+ months.

Read the post before you reply please.

I have 4g in my area, but what do I have to sacrifice to get FIOS in my area. Xboxes and PS3s?

I'm going to be getting this for my wife, and if it truely smokes my X, I will be stealing her phone a lot ;)

i was watching a bionic review & what i noticed was that for this phone to have only a 1ghz dual core, 512mb of ram & a qHD screen which needs to process 35% more pixels than the galaxy 2 wvga 800x450 screen. the scores that the droid bionic had from quadrant pro was 2800 with the galaxy 2 receiving a score of 3200, both were stock. now think about this for a second & youll notice that the bionic as i said before only has 512mb ram, a qHD screen that needs more processing & only 1ghz dual core cpu. the same was in antutu benchmark, the cpu score was high but i really paid attention to the gpu score which was 2490 for the bionic & the galaxy 2 had 2380, again remember that its a 1ghz with a qHD & 512mb ram on the bionic vs 1.2ghz, 800x450 & 1gig of ram. you can obviously see which of the 2 gives better performance & battery life. the bionic is reviewed to have up to 2 to 3 days of regular use! & a full day & a half of hard video, web & gaming. so with that said if you want you can over clock your bionic up to 1.2ghz to make it an even clock speed as the galaxy 2 & you can imagine the scores the extra 200mgz will give this phone. the screen is also comparable to the super amoled plus on the gs2 if you look at the google videos of bionic vs galaxy 2 youll see the viewing angles are just as good & the colors just as vivid but more accurate imo or the same to some, but with the benefit of the higher resolution screen. id say they are evenly matched but the motorola's gps, screen & cdma antennas are more superior in my eyes. check out the reviews & be your own judge. i was going to wait for the galaxy 2 on sprint but instead im going to buy the Photon which is the sprints version of the bionic but it has a kickstand & 1gig of ram instead of 512mb which would give it the advantage over the galazy s2. only problem is that they have the locked bootloader & ill have to deal with that until someone unlocks the device.

The new bionic has 1gb ram. so it will only get better but idk what study you look at because the reason they revised it was because of the awful battery life so 2-3 days I find that hard to believe otherwise they wouldnt have delayed it 7 months to make revisions to it. And the photon is tegra 2 where as the bionic is omap 4.

I think what matters to me more than just screen size is the actual dimension of phone. 4.5" screen phone can be similar to 4.3" screen phone size if front surface has relatively more screen area. Is the physical dimension, weight of Bionic known?
