Droid "Does" stories

DanSan

so today made me real proud to own a droid, i finally got to show it off in its true light.

first story started off in one of my classes. its in the basement and we only we wifi reception. i was talking to this kid next to me who owns an iphone about how i pulled up notes during the quiz last week on my phone. he bugged and i showed him how to hook into the schools wifi and then i showed him i logged onto blackboard and loaded the teachers notes (word docs, powerpoint, etc). he was bugging the hell out and was pissed hes still in contract lol.

next story was at work.. i work at be$t buy and i was working on some shit in the back and one of the guys asks me how to shut off 3g for a customer. i told him to send the customer around and i was helping him. i was telling him all about the phone and how 3g and wifi work and shit. i put a power control widget on his homescreen, he loved it. also told him how he doesnt need the advanced task killer app. he was really happy to have purchased the phone and i spent some time showing him all the cool things.

next, i was helping some lady cuz she said her laptop wasnt connecting to wifi. the stores network is usually crap so i was having problems connecting. pulled out my phone and i told her im gonna try something else. when i told the lady im gonna tether off my phone, she was like holy shit you can do that! that phone is crazy. too bad she was broke as hell and used pay as u go phones lol.

then the last but best story of the day. this guy bought an iphone and extended his contract. my friend works the cell phone area and sent the older guy over to me to have his @att.net email hooked up to the phone. the whole time when he came over we were joking with him about getting a droid lol. well i tried everything known to man to hook it up. searched the internet high and low and even followed directions i found on att's website. nothing would work. the guy decided to call apple after messing around for a solid 45-60 minutes. he spent like a half hour on the phone with them as i went along with my work. i decided to try something and see if we were both ******ed or what. loaded up my droid, opened k9 mail and had the email account synced and loaded within 30 seconds. the guy was blown away and was laughing to the "genius" on the phone telling him that i just did it on my droid in no time flat. hes tells the apple rep, so why should i keep this phone when this kids droid did this right away. they convinced him to visit them at an apple store to look at it lol.

and those are my droid does stories for today.. was blown away i had soooo many.

that last one was killer.

i can't think of any does or doesn't stories right now, i just like how it performs, i keep telling a girl at work to upgrade to one but instead she decided to get an ipod touch, its her choice, but i think she will be sad when i get flash and she gets a blue icon.

i do like the flash on the camera and how its used as a flashlight

i have had people say "wow, it can be an ereader?" or "wow didn't know it did voice to text input"

Friend got in my car. I have a car dock. I spoke the address of where I wanted to go and my friend is like "WTF, this is better than my Garmin!" And I started laughing.

I went snowboarding with the My Tracks app and mapped every path we cut through the mountain and the trees, and even clocked our speed while hauling down the mountain..... 52.82 miles per hour. Droid Does!!!!

wow! now thats another cool one! my tracks eh? i will have to do that one time for certain stuff.

the question isn't what can the droid do, it's what can't the droid do. it does everything, well everything except for flash at the moment.

Man...There are alot of stories. I can't even put them together properly anymore. I can say this, VZW owes me money and so does Moto..LOL..

After I got my phone, the following people bought one (after seeing mine do things like Shazaam or Google Nav, etc.)

My Brother (and his x-wife wants one)
4 Friends
2 Coworkers
2 Coworkers want one, but are waiting on contracts to expire with Iphone

Droid Does : provide a nice flashlight a few times when I've needed to get under the hood of my car

Droid Does : Provide a flashlight when I need to fix people's computers

Droid Does : Get friends out of being lost with Nav

Droid Does : Find me phone numbers easily by a simple voice search

Droid Does : I could go on and on...

Just this afternoon at lunch I watched my iphone using friend struggling to look up the name of a restaurant neither of us could remember. After about five minutes of slow loading and false hits on his end, I pull out the droid and say '[ethnicity] restaurants in [location]' to voice search, and get it at the top of the page.

(as an unrelated aside, I actually met someone in a bar last week who recognized by sight that my droid was rooted and rom'ed. Can't remember the rest of the conversation tho. ;) )

My Droid saved a kitten from a burning building...

ok, not really, but my Droid is a "working" phone, as in it helps me daily in my job as VZW tech support, helping me walk customers through things on their phones. Not any one spectacular feat. My Droid's more of an everyday hero  It helps me to help folks fall more in love with their own Droids every day. :D

I was a "late" adopter due to waiting for my NE2 to come up on January 18th. I was freaking they'd announce the Bravo etc very soon in 2010. So I work in IT for my company and I have a co-worker same level as me. He's in his 50s and is a total control freak, not to mention a ridiculous Apple fanboy. Not only does he have his work BB on a belt holster but his iPod Touch. He rants and raves about how he hates Dell and all PCs and "Macs just work." He's going to buy an iPad day one (LULZ). He's ridiculously restrictive on our network, and blocks just about everything HE sees fit. He doesn't really have the right to do this and has gotten yelled at a few times since all of our other sites just monitor and not block anything except spam and malicious/inappropriate sites.

Well my Droid along with Astro and USB mounting has let me access some antivirus programs and utilities that I have needed in an emergency for my job which I wouldn't have gotten any other way but an Air Card or driving home during my lunch breaks.

Love you Droid.

lol these stories are making me want to leave my eris behind again and switch back to my droid collecting dust over there

This one time at bandcamp, I picked up my Droid and called someone and they could hear me and I could hear them. Droid Does!

Who me?
Ummm I'm having a hard time

between looks vs. speed

The eris is a sexy phone the droid is butt ugly but fast
and the lack of 7 homescreens is annoying...and i tried rooting with a friend & he messed up(thank god...he fixed whatever he did)

Go back to Droid. Follow the easy root app that takes you directly to Bugless Beast and easy overclocking. Profit ! :)

Droid isn't so ugly if you get a nice little snap on plastic bezel case for it, then it passes of well enough, although a plain naked Droid is ugly to you??

I have FIOS cable and internet at home and downloaded the FIOS Mobile Remote app and it's pretty slick. I can view pics from my phone on my TV. My wife was impressed. Plus the app works as a remote as well.

There are so many customization and app stories, but the one that still gets me is watching my iPhone buddies struggle with picking up phone calls while I'm connecting full bore. DROID does the complex things as well as the simple things: Android OS + VZW = FTW!

But on the real, navigation continues to amaze me to this day. One story, on the way home from church, buddy took off early because he heard of a major accident on I-66E. I left about 5-7 minutes later, booted up Nav, layered on traffic, led me along an alternative route, got back on I-66E after the accident. Looked in my rear-view to see a parking lot of cars jammed up on the interstate. I beat my buddy home by a solid 15 minutes.

...

I was at my in-law's place this weekend and they needed some ingredients for something dinner-related. They asked if I could run to the store and proceeded to give me directions to the closest market and I was like,

Today in Lit class my friend pulled out his iPhone. Hes had it for a while and all (i even jailbroke it for him). I didn't pay much attention thinking he would ramble on about having the 'coolest phone out there'..but all of a sudden I heard the robot DROID sound. I thought "aw crap my phone just went off" but he then looked at his phone and started showing people this cool sound it could make. I started laughing and pulled out my phone where I proceeded to show him where that sound came from.

DROID does make the droid sound ;)

Best story I heard was when a friend with an iphone couldn't get internet reception, the droid owner sets up a wifi tether so the guy with the iphone can get internet access.

LOL, u guys are too funny.

its funny cause one time, i had no signal and my friend w/ the 3g iphone had signal.. so i had to ask him if i could borrow his phone to sign up for classes.
