Root Droid Incredible 2.2 Officially Rooted

for the time being why don't you just download pdanet from the app store. it will allow you to usb tether very easily.
Yeah, that's what I did too. The only issue with that is you can't get https sites, such as email, shopping etc. However, if you pay the one time fee of around 18 bucks you are good to go. Works like a charm.

I'm surprised there hasn't been an update from unrevoked since yesterday.

x2

And so i dont create another useless post, can someone confirm .. does the rooting process wipe the phone?

Also once you have root, you can flash a ROM correct? Does that wipe the phone again every time you flash a new ROM?

Rooting does not wipe the phone.

Flashing a rom i will almost always wipe the phone. It avoids most of the problems users seem to have when flashing roms over roms. Titanium backup however is awesome and can be used since you are rooted.

I'm a newbie at rooting also but this is the general info.:

INSTRUCTIONS (From CM6):
- First time flashing CM 6 (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device - unrevoked
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM

To flash a ROM (from SR3):

1. Download the ROM from the link above
2. Place it on your sd card
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Do a nandroid backup
5. Perform a full wipe (This includes RC2)
6. Select "install zip from sdcard"
7. Select the file and you're on your way to happiness

Most recent twitter update from unrEVOked says they're working on 3.21 and will be putting out test builds soon.

that's what i thought. so rooting using the unrevoked 3.21 and using their process wont wipe anything but later on down the road if i choose to flash a different ROM THAT is when i will have to back everything up etc?

All...Have Patience...The guys from unrEVOked are working on getting all the bugs out of 3.21. I was in the testing environment last night and there are still some minor tweaks they are doing. Trust me, it is very easy and well worth the wait.

I have a question(or 4). Once this goes live again, how will it apply to those of us who have already rooted the 2.1updated version? I rooted using this guide.

Does this mean I already have the necessary HBOOT files? Should I receive the OTA update before doing anything?
Will they be posting the directions for a rooted user when it comes back up?

As you can tell, I am learning as I go along, but I refuse to be too scared off, and the Tethering come in very handy. =)
I appreciate the patience and help you all have provided!

If you are rooted with Clockwork Mod, you will not get the update from what I hear. I recommend that you apply unrevoked forever and follow the directions for putting the stock recovery back on your phone to get the ota or apply the ruu.

If you are rooted already and used unrevoked 3.1 or 3.14, then yes.

Should I receive the OTA update before doing anything? See above.

Okay, I am getting so frustrated please help.
I have tried rooting my HTC Incredible a few times with the Unrevoked3 v3.14.
Everytime it comes up with "Failed to flash recovery image".
I have tried all the things I have seen other users try; get rid of HTC Sync from both phone and computer, use something other than Windows 7 64 bit, I have even gone to the point of doing a factory reset thinking there was something on my phone that was stopping it.
I have 2.2 on my phone and am thinking that I need the Unrevoked3 v3.21 they are about to release and that this may be my problem but it seems the v3.14 should work.
Any ideas? Thanks

Yeah the IRC channel is your best bet I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and they helped walk me through the process (mainly sent me links to forums for the best way to go about everything) also from there you can get the 3.21 at the top of the page

you cant use unrEVOked tool on 2.2 until 3.21 comes out. just wait or you can downgrade to 2.1 then do it if you really want to
