I would say man from expreance that going thr rom route is faster and more painless ... it removes the blot and most include a diffrent knerel ... just my 2 pennies ...OK, I would post this question in the root section, but it's kind of messy in there.
I have a couple questions for you Skorpios. You said you use Skyraider 3.5 right? I found a couple threads about it, but couldn't get much out of them. What differences are there between it and the stock rom? What do you like best about it? Do you use a different kernal, or stock?
Trying to decide how to move forward. Either remove the bloat myself, or grab a ROM.
Thanks for any help!
Another question. I decided to try out the free version of ROM Manager to see what ROMs it shows. When I go to Download ROMs, it says I need to install Clockwork recovery. I already have it. Any thoughts?
To me it is pretty similar to the Stock Sense ROM. There are some updates to the framework and other additions, one of my favorites is the ability to change the lockscreen, I'm currently using a rotary unlock with music controls. Another thing I like is that it has toggles in the notification pulldown, which are also customizable. As far as bloat removal, ihtfp69 left most of the stock apks in the ROM with the following exceptions:OK, I would post this question in the root section, but it's kind of messy in there.

I know it is a massive thread (650+ pages), but here is ihftp's original post on XDA about it.
xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM] SkyRaider Sense 3.5 [UPDATED: 12/06/10]
I don't use the kernel that came with the ROM, though it is very good. I'm using chad0989's incredikernel-12202010, info is found here:
[KERNEL] 2.6.37-incredikernel-02/22/11-2 BETA - GB/Froyo - xda-developers
Which version of Clockwork do you have, according to ROM Manager? I have 2.5.0.5 which is working fine for me, and ROM Manager keeps telling me that there is an update available. Since I flash mainly Sense Roms which haven't been updated to the new update profile, I will not go to 3.5.0.5 (latest). If ROM Manager does not show Clockwork as being installed, you may have to reflash it through Clockwork. You can select older versions (oldest showing for me is 2.5.12) in All ClockworkMod Recoveries at the bottom of the ROM Manager menu.
That should work. TBH, I actually do most of my flashing manually through the recovery. I mainly use ROM Manager to manage my nandroid backups (which I usually also make manually through recovery), i.e. give them more meaningful names, delete old (unneeded?) backups, etc.Cool, I'll be checking out these threads for sure.
I have 2.5.1.2, which is what Unrevoked installed. Maybe I'll see if it will re-install the same version and then work. Or maybe I skip ROM Manager and do it manually like the kid suggests. From the guide, it doesn't look too hard.
Thanks guys!

Glad it worked for you. Happy flashing! It worked. I did a nandroid and then let ROM Manager install clockwork recovery. I then went in and had it install the 2.5.1.2 recovery. Works fine now.
I'll likely be trying out skyraider over the weekend.
Thanks again!
