Thanks for the explanation Steve, and I understand, it's "the lesser of two evils" thing. I don't envy you the job.

About the Star Trek avatar. My Dad was head of the camera dept. at Desilu back when Lucille Ball still owned the studio. I grew up a "studio brat" and spent my summers running around the sets. I fell in love with the Original series, and never lost my obsession with the franchise.

That being said, there is no way to collect everything Star Trek, so I had to specialize and chose the Borg, as they are my favorite villains. Thus the "Locutus" avatar. :D

I have a quick question. Is there any way to view what's stored on your SD card? As in view it like a folder? I downloaded a few .pdf's and although I can see them in the PDF viewer I cannot figure out how to delete them from my SD card without hooking my phone up to the computer.

yeah, go to the market and download astro file manager, or something of that sort. It will allow you to see whats on your SD card when you select that folder. From there you can delete, cut, paste, copy, move, etc

OMG! No way!!!! We have to talk! I love ST. I loved the locutus episodes and the Movie! Best movie! First contact.

When this whole thing with Gizmodo happened, I got a lot of advice from people who said you've got to just let it slide. You shouldn't go after a journalist because they bought stolen property and tried to extort you. I thought about that, and I decided that Apple can't afford to change its core values and simply let it slide. We have the same core values as when we started, and we come into work wanting to do the same thing today that we wanted to do five years ago.

-steve jobs is a jerk. Is that a threat to gizmodo? Someone oust this guy.

I feel like I came into the middle of a conversation, and maybe I did. By saying "People told you to let it slide" are you inferring that you have a say in the matter? Do you work for Apple, or ?

I'm just trying to understand the context of your post. I've scrolled back through the thread and can't determine which previous post you may be responding to?

I think this is a great time, and venue (successor to mega-thread), to give Steven58 a round of applause for keeping the faith and becoming a Guide... well deserved and i know you'll make us all proud. Thanks for your continued contributions, and more recently, for your organizational (read: moving threads around) efforts.

(How does it feel to actually be adding VALUE vs. just post count??? j/k of course :p)

I feel like he needs a proper "roasting" to enhance the promotion. I'll start:

"It's hard to believe Steven's productivity and usefulness has increased since being promoted, I mean how can he even type with a giant belly full of macaroni grill keeping him at least a foot away from his keyboard..."

;)

I'm surprised he's into moving so many threads around instead of fighting his baser instincts to just throw plastic on it and not let any kids into the room...

;)

I'm pretty sure that's what Steve Jobs said at D8 yesterday or the day before (I don't remember)

That's right!

Didn't mean to confuse I just came out of left field it had nothing to do with previous conversation :)

I just like when Steve Jobs proves he is senile.

Oh it's Gizmodos fault you give your employees unreleased phones and lose them at bars! I get it now.

I think i'm a bit late to the party on this one, but HUUUGE trekky (did i spell that right?) here, especially TNG!!!

My favorite character was Capt. Picard and, as some of you may know, as of today he is Sir Patrick Stewart...latest person to be knighted...pretty cool.

Nice! Very appropriate ;) And you're doing a great job keeping the thread clutter free, I like the fact that redundant threads are being put in their place! And hey the offer still stands, I'd love to be a guide on this forum, since it's so close to my heart ;)

TheGoatLantern, quick response to your Guide inquiry. While it's good to know you have interest, there is not "apply here" button... Guides are chosen based on a proven track record of contributions, merit, dedication to the forum, helpfulness to others, cool/calm/collected demeanor, etc... TheGoatLantern, not saying you don't meet any of these criteria at all, this is more of a public service announcement to anyone out there who is interested...just do the right things, say the right things, show dedication and it will come.

As other Guide's can tell you from their own "recruitement" and as Mod's can tell you, there is a constantly evolving list of candidates being discussed and people are put on the list, and taken off the list!, so we can fill the positions quickly as need arises...

Hope that helps, cheers!

Yes Patrick Stewart is a personal favorite of mine also. As I mentioned in my previous post, My family has been involved in the film business for four generations. I took an early retirement from Technicolor a few years back. While I was there Patrick Stewart came in for a screening of a Western he directed that was shown on HBO, the name escapes me now. But, I couldn't help asking him for an autograph, which he gave me. Knowing he was scheduled to come in, I "happened" to have some still shots of him as "Locutus" with me and he signed them all for me. He's a very nice, and humble man! :D

Thanks for the input Anon, I would just like to throw my name in the hat as it were. I love this forum and already help when I can, that and I'm always on here reading away! If it happens it happens, all I can say is a good job to those who are helping keep this place as fun and informative as it is!

Space... The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.

<insert sweetest sound effects and music EVER>

It was the systemic failure in the promotion system that let you get promoted that prompted us to set up criteria for promoting Guides...
