I just tested and animated gifs seem to work OK. They need to be the correct resolution AND under 19KB in file size.

I take that back I have a very big clue as to why Steven is having issues, but regarding his ability to have the animated avatar I do not know....

secondly, the AF server didn't allow the gif to animate.
