Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

I'm still hopeful that there will be a patch out soon as well. I've heard this happening on other devices as well. Dont know if it is a Android OS issue or a hardware issue.

Is there some kind of error log on the android OS? Like Windows Event Viewer?

So I went into the verizon store today in Syracuse. The tech guy said he is not aware of random rebooting on the DI being an official "product problem" and that noone else has even come in yet with any problem with a DI. He was also not aware of the concentrated cases of random rebooting in North Carolina, which verizon has recognized.

Anyway, he suggested that the battery could be coming out of contact and causing the reboots so they are 2-day shipping me a new battery. I highly doubt this will solve my problem but i hope i am wrong. As intrepid-ny said, i bet many DI users are oblivious to their phone rebooting, and/or it is not happening enough in their case to worry about it.

I received my DI on launch day (4/29) and didn't have any reboots until I installed the update. After that, it rebooted twice on Monday, both at work. I performed a *228 SPL refresh this morning. It worked fine all afternoon and then it rebooted when I got home. In all cases, I wasn't using the phone. I noticed the reboot because of the vibrate alert.

BTW, I live in Cary, NC and work in Sanford, NC.

The past two days my INC has randomly restarted itself.

Any ideas as to why?

I just got the thing saturday and of course downloaded a ton of apps, but that had never happened. I think the first time it happened was yesterday.

Only app I recently downloaded that may be causing the problem is Toggle Settings. Has there been mention of that causing problems at all?

All the problems seem to be in NC.

I'm in Ohio. It doesn't do it while I'm doing anything, it'll just be sitting on my desk and I hear it restart.

Is there anyway to see how many times it's restarted? I wonder if it's doing it more than I've noticed. I've only seen it do it once a day the past two days.

As of today, I've had my DI for 14 days and I didn't have a single reboot until this afternoon. Since then it's happened twice. First time I was turning off bluetooth from the power widget. I had 3 bars of service at the time. Later I drove home, which goes through about 4 spots that I lose service for 5+ minutes but no reboot. I get home and start the music app and it reboots again.

Funny thing is, I've been reading about this happening mostly in North Carolina. I drove from Virginia to South Carolina and back last week, but no reboots. Any new ideas on why this is happening?

The easiest way to monitor random rebooting is to turn on location services: "Settings"--->"Location"--->"Use GPS Satellites"

If enabled, every time the phone reboots, you will get the full screen Google warning about location privacy.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the VZW tech. My phone rebooted itself twice yesterday at 6:11 PM and 6:22 PM and I didn't have a chance to call them until now.

This is the 5th time my DI has rebooted. I got it on the 1st, and it rebooted on the 2nd,3rd, @6th, and twice yesterday 12th that I know of. It may have also rebooted when I wasn't looking... So far it is only rebooting when the device is idle... not when in use. And it reboots fairly fast. So it really isn't that annoying... yet.

The tech said that the device can reboot itself when the voice & data signal can not be found. It does so in order to try and reconnect - in case there is a software issue.

He also said that as of May 3rd, they have identified a "known issue" with Droid Icredibles on their network in the south region (I'm in north Texas). This is causing a "very few" of the DI's to reboot themselves occasionally. The VZW network uses Motorola routers which, according to their net admins, are having issues with and somehow causing the DI's to reboot. They are working with Motorola to resolve the issue. They are also in the process of replacing some of the Motorola routers. At least that's what the tech's knowledgebase notes said. He is supposed to send me an email with an update sometime soon...

Thanks.

BS in bold. Gotta love customer support.

Thanks for the update.

Make bugs and issues sound like a feature. They must be trained by MS :).

I just opened up a case w/ HTC to see what they have to say about the reboots. I will post any findings/updates.

I just spoke with verizon. There is a technical bulletin with states that Verizon is working with the vendor (HTC) to resolve the known reboot issue. I put in a trouble report so they would be aware that is is happening in NY and other Northeast areas as well.

I changed Menu, Settings, Wireless & Networks, Mobile Networks, System Select to: HOME ONLY. I will let you know if my phone still reboots. No idea if it will have any effect.

So funny, some people are saying NO WAY,,,not the Incredible! This is a pretty big problem out there...My dad's phone would not stop re-booting for about 20 minutes.. Sounds like a problem to me!

In NYC by the way...

Happened to my phone today but wasn't using it. Didn't see it as that big of an issue since I wouldn't have even notice if my recent apps wasn't blank

Followup: Didn't fix it.

I had a bunch of reboots when I first got it and drove to Western NC for a weekend. I hadn't noticed any since the first couple of days but it has rebooted 3 times in the last 2 days. Once was at work today - noticed the phone vibrate while in my pocket.

One thing I have noticed is that the reboots have all happened when I'm in a low signal area. Hope the issue gets fixed - I love this phone but don't want to struggle with reboots every day.

Got my battery today, and my DI is rebooting as bad as ever. I'm gonna go back into the store tomorrow and probably have to order a new phone.

From what I've read, a new phone may have the same problems. I believe this is a Verizon network / Incredible software issue - not a hardware defect. If your phone is rebooting frequently, it couldn't hurt to try. My DI "only" reboots a few times a week. Please let us know what happens if you replace the phone!

Well I'm glad they're working on it. I was getting worried. Yesterday I emailed HTC and they wanted to replace my phone. I know that won't help so I'm glad someone has a clue about this issue.

I've noticed a definite pattern lately to my reboots. Whenever I am doing data intensive tasks like YouTube or downloading a large file in a low signal area, I get a reboot. It doesn't always happen, but my last 5 reboots have occurred during this scenario. I hope it is a software/network issue that can be solved with an OTA.

If you want this fixed, please email Verizion. Also, it's important that you call them and be sure they open a ticket. Remember to tell them this is not just happening in the south. If you don't get this email, they didn't open a ticket:

The issue you reported is being investigated. You will receive notification when the issue is resolved. Ticket # xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
