Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

"Home only" didn't work for me either. I ended up doing a hard reset out of frustration because it started resetting while I was on calls. It seems to have worked for me so far, so it may have actually been an app for me, though I don't know which as the time the reboots first started I hadn't installed anything new. And my reboots were happening even with the phone just sitting and not doing anything, with nothing conspicuous running (according to System Panel). None of the apps I was using before had any comments about them causing rebooting either. I'm just crossing my fingers for now.

Man, I dont know what it is but I only got a couple of random reboots since pre-order delivery until Monday.

Between Monday and today I've gotten like 8! Monday was the worse. My dad has an Incredible and same thing... he is in the Greenville area.

What the hell is going on. HTC/Verizon toss us some bug fixes and OTA updates!

Some have said it's a bad phone and they have no such issues. But many in the forum have received replacements with the same issue. And as you said, your Dad has the same problem. So, it's either many defective phones or buggy OS software interacting poorly with certain cell towers. For example, my phone never reboots at the office but always reboots at home (low signal area). Another possibility is a bad app - but again, new phones with no apps installed also had the reboot issue. Luckily, it only happens once or so a week for me (sometimes several times in one day). It's random but infrequent. Hopefully the OTA update with fix this problem (along with the mediocre voice quality)

my first 2 rebooted about 5 times a day.

my 3rd one i did the leaked ota right when i got it and it was freaking awesome.
Except the speaker was crackling like it was blown.

Now my 4th one is rebooting by itself. I'm tempted to do the leaked ota and see if that fixes it.

Mine reboots for no reason too. It did it with nothing on it, and now rooted too. sometimes right as I'm surfing the web, and once while I was talking to someone.

thats a good question, are you loading the same apps on all the phones? or are you giving it a day or two without any apps to make sure it's just the phone. would suck if all this trouble was due to a misbehaving app.

going through 4 is a problem you must be using a bad app or doing something... wrong or just unlucky? what are you using

Maybe it has something to do with where you live and your location?

Maybe the signal is getting messed up or something?

The crazy thing here is that I just had lunch with a guy an hour ago who was having the same exact issues with his Original Motorola Droid. He went thru four phones. I am also inclined to believe that it's a bad app or maybe it doesn't play nice with your mail server if you're doing the company email thing. Good luck because I feel for ya.

For what its worth, mine will reboot but i've narrowed it down to Slacker Radio. I've noticed that if i skip through a few songs, say 5-6, then the phone slows down as though the app has crashed but then my incredible will restart. So more than likely its not your phone just some faulty app that is causing it. I haven't used slacker in 3 days and have not had any reboots.

Good luck,

It's been mentioned in the random reboot threads, but at least for me, this has to do with a Verizon tower switching issue. My phone reboots in the exact same spot on the way to and from work every day, without fail. Literally the same 1/4 mile stretch of road. When I take a different road to work, the phone doesn't reboot. To me, it seems like that stretch of road has a dead spot, or something with signal that's causing the Android system to reboot.

I have had the same problem with 3 diff phones.

All left completely stock with no apps loaded

Without a sd card and with the sd car installed, and with 2 different batteries.

i have also reset the phone back to factory. The only common factor is the weak signal / -100 to about -95 here where i live.

Ageed. There is something wrong with Android and some Verizon Towers and low signal. Hopefully the OTA update will fix it.

I did the leaked ota update on my 3rd incredible..

Never had it reboot once. I was amazed when i looked at my uptime and realized it had been running with no crashes for 74hours straight..

I just wish the speaker was not f-ed up on the back..

Im going to hold off on returning this one, and wait for the official update to see if it actually fixes the problem.

;)

Dammit.. my inc just rebooted while i was typing this... lol luckly it only happens 4-5 times a day.

That sucks. Sorry to hear. I'm not happy. Hopefully they will fix it in the official OTA update. Luckily my phone only reboots once or twice a week (with the occasional twice in one day). I also have the mediocre voice quality issue too. If these problems are not fixed with the official OTA update, I'll get a replacement.

my signal sucks too, but the only time i have a rebooting issue, it freezes right before and its when i do an action of some sort

Curious... are you by chance using a task killer?

Once again.. lol

I have tested each one of my crashing / rebooting phones for days with absolutely no added programs. The only thing i did was sync my gmail and thats it..

I even used different formatted sd cards and i also have 2 different batterys and nothing made a difference.

;)
