Droid Prime, or Bionic??

In my area, they have unquestionably the best coverage

I don't mean to hijack the thread here, but is there any way of getting a granular reading on various carriers' coverage? I've got VZW and tho our whole city is "red" on the map, I have almost zero signal in my house. How could I find out if AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile would have a better signal right here in this spot?

You'd have to have a device that actually connects to their service so that the signal strength could be measured.

how is the signal outside? How is it if you move around?

Again, I don't mean to be hijacking this thread. We have virtually no signal in the house, except POSSIBLY near one of the windows. Outside, until you move 1/2 mile in any direction there's almost no signal, either.

I'll have to have some friends over who use different networks to see what they say.

I have 2 upgrades left, and I think I'm reverting to my original plan - I'll wait about 8 months to upgrade to the next and 6-8 months after that, which means that within another 6 months I'll be ready to use this upgrade again.

New phone every 6-8 months? Hell yes!

:D

Works for me too - as long as I can get daughter and Darling Bride to wait another xx months for a hand-me-down phone, then I can do the exact same thng...

EDIT: Speaking of which: I jumped on that $9.99 unlimited data plan back earlier in the year for my extra lines. Does anyone know if that reverts to $29.99 when the contract renews? Or are they gonna actually let us run LTE unlimited for $10 each on 3 lines indefinitely? I'm having to do some math here: if they say the deal ends when we renew, then it may be cheaper in the long run to pay full retail for these devices and stay month-to-month on what we have.

Hmmm - an extra $20 / month = an extra $240 / year = an extra $480 / 2 yr contract per line = an extra $1440 / contract for all 3 lines.

BIONIC = $249 retail VZW with contract upgrade = $589 retail w/o contract = $350 difference. and that is for one phone. If you did all three at any given time, it would be $1050 difference for retail. #winning

It was a little early for me to do math when I posted it, JG, and I wouldn't be upgrading all the lines at once. One at a time, just like you plan to do; giving me a new device every 8 months instead of every 2 years and the family gets to fight over the hand-me-downs. So doing this one at a time: if I have to lose that deal on all lines (since it's tied to my primary) then (a) it seems like it's eventually money in the bank for me; and (b) I have the flexibility of flat-out OWNING the phones and staying month to month on this deal.

Since they're only subsidizing about $300 of the cost, at an extra $60 a month I'd be in the black after 5 months or so on each device. If I'm keeping each phone for 8 months, that's $180 per phone I'm saving, or $540 on all three as they cycle out.

Am I right, do I need more caffeine or do I need to go back to math class? LOL

The numbers may vary a little here and there, but yeah, if you do get taken off the $10 plan and rolled up to a $30 plan, then yeah, it's in your benefit to buy retail and stay month to month. And hope that they don't arbitrarily do it anyway.

...And hope that they don't arbitrarily do it anyway.

They can't. When I called to get the deal they extended the contract 2 months to lock us in for at least another year. So that's the DEAL. I can't imagine a scenario when they could arbitrarily say "I know we said this but we're changing our minds." Isn't it true that once I'm on a contract, we're BOTH locked into the terms? And month-to-month is just a voluntary extension of said contract? The only way I see them terminating this deal is (a) I don't pay the bill (I ALWAYS pay early) or (b) they catch me tethering or something... which I don't and won't do anymore.

Exactly what I expected to happen. I wasn't waiting on rumors, when I had a set device ready to buy that I knew was for real.

This mix up may be a false alarm - but I couldn't afford to wait any longer.

I don't know what's going on with these phones but I saw that the Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch is on Sprint right now. I'm gonna check it out. Sounds like a killer phone...4g, 4.52 Super Amoled plus screen, 1gig ram, killer camera, 1.2gh proc, dual core. I gotta check it out if I can find a working one nearby me....

Good thread, guys. Really itchy to upgrade, but can't until Christmas. Grrr... Upshot is that by then there will be even more choices. Let us know how you like your new phones, please! .....sticking with Gingerbread on my OG unless it makes me so crazy I revert to Froyo.
