Root Droid X Developer Phone

More than anything I'm hoping this phone has full hdmi out, not just the gallery app, that was shown in the initial demo of the phone. Other than that Froyo would certainly be nice :P

The main things that I would like to see from this:

1.) Unlocked bootloader, (a given).

2.) Leaked Froyo for Droid X users. It wouldn't surprise me if it's unfinished and buggy, but it would certainly be interesting to see.

3.) Full HDMI out, as newtype06 just mentioned. I would freakin' love to be able to simply broadcast my Droid's screen onto an HDTV for playing games, (especially emulators) and simply displaying anything that I want. If you work it right, you can essentially have a fully fledged mobile entertainment center in your damn pocket. How cool would that be?

Its always nice to have a dream. But I wouldn't get your hopes up to much.

Birdman has achieved a custom recovery on a stock, rooted, 2.1u1 device! - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - Birdman has achieved a custom recovery on a stock, rooted, 2.1u1 device! - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > H

Using a hack discovered by the folks who've done all the work on the Milestone, birdman has booted a custom recovery on his handset. The process is labor-intensive and dangerous if you're not prepared to recover from a bricked device (and technically this bricks the device since you can't reboot into Android at this moment), but it's a sucessful proof of concept.

Right now he's working on getting ADB up so we can further investigate what it will take to get a fully functional recovery working (that will also allow reboot back into Android).

From there the focus will move to a more robust recovery and discovery if/how we can do Nandroids and/or write a new /System image (like Froyo). Watch @alldroid and this post for updates.

rainabba writes "Aside from rooting the DroidX (which was also done by Birdman), getting a custom recovery running is the next most important step in being able to flash custom roms. As of 6am GMT-7, Birdman and accomplished exactly that. It will take another day or 2 to polish the recovery and process to a point where it's viable for the average Android "hacker", but this should lead to Froyo on the DroidX, and who knows what else. It also PROVES that eFuse means little to us and Motorola has failed to prevent the "tampering" of their devices just as every other manufacturer has.

He seems to have done it on a stock phone also not the developer phone.

I KNOOOW!!!(not yelling just very stoked) :D This is exciting for many of us.
Im thinking droid 2 will soon follow or @ least hope so.
That's what really impressed me about the whole thing.
My hat is off to Mr. Birdman
