Accessories Droid X extended battery

Got my extended battery today, and was happy to find that it still fits in my home dock (with the new door).

I think this is floating around in another thread here - but I would discourage anyone from using the old door with the new battery. It's too tight of a fit - and you risk doing damage to the internal components of the phone.

Came back home from work and saw the UPS label on my ... anyway.

I was AMAZED how small it is when I took it out of the box. The weight, hardly any difference BUT do notice SOME weight. But for some reason, that weight makes it feel more, hmmm..... durable.

And with the normal battery cover I kept hearing about, I, of course, had to try it out. I had problems putting the origional cover on. I kept putting TOO much stress on the screen. I clearly examined it and in order to put the origional on I had to create an 'arch" over the battery in order for the hooks to lock up.

Definitly NOT happening. I didnt even want to go any further.

I then put the extended cover on and... Droid X definitly should have shipped like this. The extra bump from the cover feels origional. I have no problems with the bump and eight at all. I actually like it as it gives the X character.

About performance... I definitly charged it ALL the way (it comes 50% percent charged). It took 1 hr for full charge. I unplugged it, played with it for about 1 hr, wireless, browsing etc... went to bed, without charging it. I woke up and it was at...

Sixty per cent... I thought it would be at at least 90 since I left it at FULLY right before bed. I must have left something running. So I checked my GPS and AGPS and were both checked through the whole night.

I will report back as it is still early to tell. Could me leaving the GPS and AGPS have any effects even thou I was NOT running Maps, Navigation, etc.??????

I use a standard leather case made by HTC which I bought at BB. fits snuggly and perfect for MY needs. Do not have home/car dock so can not confirm anything else.

And questions, ask me. Thats it. Bye...

DEF also would discourage old door. But you know you wanna try :D

Just got mine, it seemed to go from 100% to dead from only 2 hours of video playing, Im thinking it to needs to be charged and drained and charged again to get full charge.

I hope.

You know, me too... I just unplugged it at 100% and took it out of my belt holdster (20 minutes later) and it was already at 90 without me doing anything. I think I will drain then fully charge it again...

With the Seidio's extended battery for the Dinc (3500 mah I think), they suggested charging it, shutting down the phone, removing the battery, then reinserting it and charging it again.

Of course with any new battery, the phone has to learn about the new battery by running the phone nearly dead once.

wow it's really a fight to get this bastard to drain in a day so I can do a complete charge cycle...almost there

I got my extended battery yesterday and also switched to froyo - so I do not know whether it is the battery or 2.2 - but I also did not get very good battery life. I am draining it today to fully recharge and try taking the battery out and reloading it - won't hurt anything even if it doesn't work. The battery stats show that the biggest drain on mine is the display - and I have it set at 30% brightness - so I do not think it is set excessively bright. I do love the slim form factor but I also like the slight extra weight.

I actually use the original battery cover back on and honestly it was fine. Mine didn't take that much of a push to get it in. And when I tapped the back, I didn't get that screen halo effect like another poster posted on this blog. Weird.

I dont know if I like the extra depth on the back with the new cover. It feels... funny in a way. The streamlined back of the old cover is much appreciated.

w00t...

Local VZW store actually had the extended in stock...just grabbed it.

It is actually 1930 mAh... as opposed to the 1500 of stock.

Now to just let it drain completely and then full charge it a few times...

it is tiny difference..so..dont see why any one wouldn't get it personally, other than maybe not wanting to spend 49.99 ... but anything that uses a battery...benefits from more battery capacity.. an additional 29% that is basically the same size...very good idea imho

Nice, I agree! I have been dating somebody that has helped get my texting usage to over 5,000 messages since my billing cycle restarted on August 3rd. On the stock battery I had to recharge at least a little bit by 4pm. It's now almost 8:30pm and I am still at 40%. :D

It's actually 1880 ma... The 1930 number is some other measurement.

I got it for $ 26 and change before they took away the 30% battery coupon code you could stack on the 25% corp discount, truly a great deal. But it kinda bugs me they just didn't go with the bigger battery in the first place considering the minimal size difference.

I got the extended battery yesterday and charged it to 100% last night. Took it off the charger at 10:51 PM (i.e. 21 hours ago). I left the phone on overnight (but not on the charger) and when I woke up it was at 90%. It's still at 40% 21 hours later! I even used Google Nav GPS today for about an hour. Besides that, I've done some light internet browsing, e-mail, and phone calls, but nothing super intensive besides the GPS. In any event, I'm impressed! My stock battery wasn't too bad either, but I'd say it would probably be near empty at this point. I have brightness on auto...With the stock battery, it was usually fine, but there were two occassions when for no reason the phone battery drained like nothing else for a couple hours in my pocket and I heard the low battery beep at 15%. Perhaps the display was left on? Doesn't make any sense since it should auto-turn off after non-use as in my settings. But that didn't happen today with my extended battery and was a rare occurrence with stock. I'll give it some more time, but my first day with the extended battery has been a success, and I expect it to get even better with time.

Well I have been trying to run my battery down today but after 26 hours it is still at 50%. I removed Blink that gave led notifications and I think that helped with the monitor drainage. I have not taken off anything else and I have been playing with it on and off all day. I am happy I made the purchase.

Guys, as to my extended battery results... I am now COMPLETELY satisfied with it! After my third full charge/drain I left on the brightness all the way up, used navigation for 2 hrs while playing Pandora in the background and adding/deleting/playing Market games for 3 hours and left WIFI on the whole time I, I... dont know what to say... IT IS hard draining this extended now after the third charge! I was on it 12 hours after being plugged in browsing, texting, pandoraing, navigating etc... VERY IMPRESSED, worth the $26...

Give the battery time to ADJUST itself. It seems that when I'm at 30%, it takes the LONGEST to deplete, anyone else????

Anyone else have a looser battery door? The extended battery door cover seems to not lock in as tightly as the stock door.

It is a very slight wiggle, but definitely not solid. You can feel it slightly move every now and then while holding the phone in your hand.

so..Got it today...the VZW d00d put it in for me...light usage so far today with it..at 50% now.

Should I charge it to full once..then drain to empty...or drain before first full charge?

Yes the stock battery door fits more closely to the stock battery. The extended battery door leaves a little space between it and the extended battery. I don't know what the reason for Motorola doing this is. People have forced the stock door over the extended battery, it's a very tight fit and nobody knows what the extra physical stress on the phone will do in the long term.

Honestly the extended battery helped but I think the biggest battery life boost happened for me by going to Froyo since I always left the GPS on all the time.

Just curious, why is that? GPS is a battery hog, does Froyo has a better resource management?

Yes GPS is a battery hog, and I believe the Froyo update includes a better break-down of resource management, as it's suppose to show you specific apps that you use and their usage on your device.
