Droid X Keyboard now available for ALL PHONES!

I hate those arrow keys. Am I the only one that constantly hits one? I am going for the space bar, but hit the arrow key instead, backing my cursor up one character into the word I just typed, and then I start typing the new word. Happens to me all the time, and I cuz and swear like a muthaf***r all the time. Cannot wait to swap the keyboard out!

so whats so great about this keyboard? just the multitouch?

still is pale in comparison to Shapewriter, which is > than swype

Man i literally just registered to xda forums for this file and posted in the lagging keyboard thread.

So far i am having mixed results with this keyboard. I can definitely type noticeably faster however this fails in that i am typing too fast for it. It constantly misses letters that pop up as having been hit. Then up until this reply for some reason, any forum replies have been horrendously laggy. Its ok right now but 10 min ago it was at least 3 letters behind me at all times.

Also of course i miss the arrow keys but i do see a voice button which is great. I haven't tested that out yet.

no lag here what-so-ever

unless shapewriter disables auto-capping, including "i" and still adds in punctuation, then i'm afraid it's not. not for me anyway.

where can i find shapewriter, btw?
edit: nvm, found on dev site.
edit2: nope, dev site didn't work from phone browser. somewhere else i can get the apk?
edit3: a little googling found it

This is great. The LatinIME keyboard from the first post would not install for me, but the one in Roadblock's post installed fine. Working very well, I am happy with it! Thanks Roadblock.

I LOVE the fact that the arrows ARE NOT on this keyboard!!
loading on my evo now!!

**just installed and wrote a few texts** UMMM WOW.. I LOVE IT

I'm with ya on this since day one. So frusterating. However I don't blame the arrows as much as htc's terrible placement of them. I try to use horizontal keyboard as much as possible and the arrows are out of the way to the side.

How do you move the cursor to edit stuff you just typed? The arrows are amazing for this. I feel like an idiot tapping 8 times to get the cursor to go exactly where I want it with the other keyboards. Half the time i think, screw it, and just delete half a word to get where i want and retype it.

it doesn't get any easier than that honestly.
if you still can't get it, then i don't think you should be messing around with stuff like this.

Thanks for the help. I have done every single step you mentioned here. But when I get to step seven, I can not find Droid X keyboard apk. Is it called something else when looking for it is appIstaller. When I am in appIstaller, I see a couple hundred things but not Droid X Keyboard. Thanks

Did you try searching for .apk?

I don't have app installer but i do have astro. After looking for awhile i just gave up and searched for files with .apk. popped right up with the other apk files on my sd card. Tap and launch.

i personally disagree with this whole post lol
although you can get it to not capitalize "i" and such, when hitting the delete button, if you just hold it down, it doesn't keep deleting. you have to hold, let go, hold let go, etc. i also didn't really like the look of it.

i think swype is better than shapewriter (i'm certainly not the first to think this) and the multitouch keyboard is as good as swype.

uninstalling shapewriter.

OK so I have it and running it. The 2 things I DON'T like about it is that the "i" does not automatically capitalize unless its the first letter after the period.

The second thing I don't like is there is no drop down arrow to "minimize" the keyboard like the Evo keyboard has.

Overall I do like it. I will run it for the day and see how it feels

1. i freaking love that about it! lol
2. just hit the back button. it's the same with swype

I like Swype in portrait mode but like the multi touch in landscape mode :) When I try to type anything in portrait mode with the DroidX keyboard, I get a lot of typos.

I've already installed this KB but when I went to megaupload & entered the code using the Evo's browser, the countdown would start but got stuck around 49seconds. I even tried Skyfire...What browser are you using?

Installed fine and is up and running on my EVO. Prefer typing with the multitouch keyboard over swype. I can actually type as fast as I want to with minimal typos now.

for you all - I will temporarily host the apk file:

stock browser. it will stop if you move the screen. you have to let it just sit and count down
edit: or you could send yourself the link that the d00d a few posts up just posted :p

I don't know why anybody would not like the automatically capitalizing of the i.

Thanks for the info on using the back button.

because i view txting as a minimalistic way of communicating, yet efficient, and therefore i'd like the text to also be minimal. i typically don't capitalize that letter, or any, unless i'm writing a paper for class.

lol u r dum 4 thinking that, this is wut kind of txtspeak crap *shudder* that attitude results in. I'd much rather that I can sound like an adult when SMSing / emailing on my phone and have the keyboard help me do so by correcting spelling and capitalization when the touch-screen keyboard makes it more difficult to do so myself.

But yeah, you go with your anti-authority all-lowercase k3wlness.
