Droid X keyboard on Eris

Lurker
i have been trying to install the droid x keyboard on my girlfriends eris but i keep getting a parse error. it installed fine on my incredible any help would be appreciated.

Resolution mismatch. It will need to be recompiled for the Eris.

I thought so too, but it turns out some Hero users have gotten it working. So it is actually scalable, but the problem seems to be that it requires you to be using a ROM with a Vanilla Android keyboard (LatinIME.apk) in it, such as Darchdroid. And then you have to install the Droid X keyboard in its place by pushing it to /system/app/LatinIME.apk. It must have dependencies on the Vanilla framework or something. Anyway, there's currently no ported version for Sense or non-root users, but maybe someone will figure out what's missing and patch it. UPDATE: Figured out, see below.

Good work, thenestor.

Btw, can we call you "nestor?" Or should it be "the?"

Inquiring minds need to know.

Anyone want to try this version and tell me if it works?

DroidXIME-nonroot.apk

I tried just putting the required libraries inside the APK itself, so even non-root users will be able to install it. But since I already ran my own flashable ZIP, I can't test this.

UPDATE: Seems to be working! Just download this onto your phone and click to install it. Or put it on your SD card and use a file manager to find it and click it.

Credit to itmustbejj for original keyboard.

UPDATE 2: If you want haptic feedback working, try this version instead:

Works! Its really sharp! The only thing that doesn't work is haptic feedback, if you're into that sort of thing :p

Yeah, I noticed that too. If you put the phone very close to your ear, you'll hear that it actually is oscillating once when you hit a key...it's just incredibly fast and faint. I'm sure it can be fixed; it just needs the vibration length increased. Perhaps the X measures vibration in number of oscillations, while ours measures in milliseconds. I can try fixing it later.

works perfect on regular 2.1 has a nice feel to it, just dont like that it doesnt have compact qwerty. i can only imagine this on the droidx though.

I'm using it to type this un-rooted. Works very nicely. Wow! Like my shapewriter but this is definitely better than stock. Thanks.

I just installed the file APK above, right from my phone, and it's not
working. How do I get it to come up, or what might I have done wrong?
I have a little check next to it.

^I installed it from the link as well and cannot find it listed to even be able to check it.

If you've gotten that far, long press on the input area in a text message, hit 'Input method', and then choose what keyboard you want.

Yeah, only the HTC ones are listed, not the multitouch one.
