Droid X looks pretty sweet, but ...

This thread is posted here because the $10/month fee and the $30 per month hotspot fee are relevant only the EVO 4G. Until Sprint rolls out 4G at speeds that at least match other networks' 3G speeds, I think it's a bit odd for Sprint to be charging so much for tethering and the hotspot feature compared to its primary CDMA competitor.
 
My uses for video calling:

See my daughter when I'm traveling for work, as my company laptop is locked down and I can't install a video cameras on it.

When I'm or and about and see something happening, I can SHOW it to people...e.g. at a concert or sporting event.

Going to buy something and want to share/get opinions from someone (clothes, car, house, etc.)

I don't imagine I'll be using it much for just regular talking, but the option too use it when I want to when I am out and about is making me lean towards keeping my evo. I don't play games much on my phone, so the snapdragon is fast enough for me. If I were more of a gamer, then I would probably go with the x.

And I imagine younger folks (teens, college age people) will find plenty of uses for video calling on the go.

People talk on these boards as if everyone had the same use for a phone and declare this phone our that one the best...why?

You sure did feel the need to defend your phone in an earlier post on this thread. I guess not anymore since it has moved to the Droid X forum and not in the safety of the EVO forum. It happens. And it's okay.

well i guess i could take away the Droid X pro of having a slightly faster cpu also. it's not confirmed yet and @ 1Ghz no matter what processor it is, that's is fast enough, believe me.

agreed. slightly different devices made by different companies, running on similar networks, with slightly different plan pricing. Android FTW.

it's really hard to make these claims since specs haven't yet been confirmed for the device and what's coming with it. but i'll give the benefit of the doubt here...
lets say it does come with 8GB of internal memory AND a 16gb card, i guess i can use the argument everyone else here is using with a front facing camera...i don't need that! see what i did there?

noise cancellation would be nice, but i'm certainly not furious that it was left out of the Evo.

and dedicated mic for video...again, why? lol what's wrong with the other mic?
multitouch keyboard? swype FTW :D

i also think that the target market for both phones are slightly different. while they are both high end smartphones, the Evo's main selling point is 4G, with the FF cam being second. then HDMI and all that jazz. the Droid X's main selling point is as a media phone, which is why it has a FWVGA screen.

The HTC EVO has image stabilization? If the camera is the same as the one on the HTC Incredible... which it is besides the 720p video... it does not. If you can find proof of it having it, I would love to know.

The HTC EVO has a multitouch keyboard? Oh yeah it does... 3rd party only. Interesting how my evidence is directly from this site on the EVO forum.

The extra mic dedicated to the video is great because hopefully it will produce better sound quality versus using a tiny mic, like the one found on the HTC EVO. Hopefully it'll be as good as Apple iPhone 4's sound quality. The one on the EVO sounds so muffled.

EDIT: Oops... I am so sorry. All 3 mics can actually be used on the device, depending on the scene. We'll see how it actually works. You can choose which mic to turn on depending on which scene mode that you choose within the video capture. For example, you can choose "Narrative" mode when you want to talk about what you're recording. It'll make your voice clearer in the video since only the back mic is turned on. You can even have all 3 mics turn on for much better sound capture under the "Everyday" setting.

I'm just simply pointing out that there are extra features on the Droid X, like the EVO has extra features that isn't found on the Droid X. Just pointing out that people are spitting out "false information".
 
The FF cam is just a novelty and the only time I'd use the video chat is if I wanted to show someone something. Other then I'd never use it.

I hate talking to people...I'd rather text them and be done with it.

I'm still waiting to use both the iPhone 4 and Droid X before I make my decision.
 
I never knew people were so emotionally invested in their phones until I started browsing these forums. I like and want a nice phone that does what I want and need, but some people seem to spend a lot of time trying to convince themselves or others that their particular phone is the best. I'm sure the manufacturers and carriers are all laughing straight to the bank.

You haven't been on these forums enough. lol It happens every time a big phone comes out. Motorola Droid, HTC Incredible, Nexus One, Evo 4G, and now Droid X.
 
I apologize to everyone. I initially opened this thread to discuss Sprint's fees in relation to the EVO 4G as compared to Verizon's fees for the Droid X, but a moderator moved this thread to the Droid area.

Correct. The X has a true multi-touch keyboard. 16GB card confirmed giving it 24GB out of the box. Image stabilization is included and hopefully works well (too new to know for sure). There are three mics, "and in video mode you can select between "scenes" based on which mic you want to use: outward facing for regular shoots, inward facing for narration. The third mic is up top for noise cancellation during calls." - Engadget. Additional features (I consider them features) are physical buttons, a dedicated camera button, diversity antennas (which should theoretically improve signal), the OMAP processor has been confirmed to be much faster than the snapdragon, video performance is better as well, and the screen has been confirmed as being visibly crisper in a side-by-side comparison besides the obvious addition of a few thousand pixels. Also, I would add the 1570 battery and apparently excellent build quality. For me personally, this outweighs the Sense UI and the front-facing camera.

No need to apologize. The comparisons didn't start to happen until someone felt like he had to make a post defending his phone and stating that it will not be beat for a year.

After using Sense UI for a while now, I am glad that I will be switching to something much more stock, without having to install an app. lol

Oh I should also add... diversity antenna! :)

Since most people are broke (and can't afford a phone higher than $199), they have to be emotionally invested to make a $2,000 decision of purchasing a smartphone.

I could imagine I would feel preeeeeeeeety stupid if, for example, I bought an EVO or DroidX at $70-80/mo for voice + data and the very next month there was an even better phone came out that only cost $40/mo for voice + data. I would feel like a fool and would have to justify my purchase to myself be coming up with little features the EVO or DroidX has which don't really matter but allow me to keep my sanity...

Hence, the bickering ;)

Exactly. If all phones were made by one company and it was completely free to just upgrade to any phone... people would be upgrading like crazy. Since people can't and can't afford to upgrade to a different device, they have to try to make their phone appear better as to make it feel like they made the right investment. I did the same when the EVO was being released. I really liked my Incredible, but I did want the EVO because I liked the bigger screen and since it was basically the same phone. Now with the Droid X being released... NOT ANYMORE. :D I can easily switch over to this with my upgrade that was due in December since Verizon is moving up all upgrades to the launch of this phone if desired for people who have eligibility in 2010. Thank you Verizon! I am really liking this phone and it has better specifications.

Even if I didn't have the upgrade, I would easily pay $600 for this phone as money isn't an issue. I could've moved over to the EVO, but I didn't want to leave Verizon's network.
 
About to jump ship from Evo to Droid X! 4g is awesome....sometimes...but 3g is crap and is what i have most of the time....i never use the front facing cam.... and i get shoddy service in my house...i roam off of Verizon some times and get 5 bars lol. Love my Evo! great phone! but the Droid x would just be better for me in terms of service! and that 1ghz OMAP!!
