Droid X Multitouch Keyboard Available

Fabolous

Superuser
Looks like someone over at XDA's got this ported. Already confirmed to be incompatible with Froyo, but I'm sure there are plenty of people running 2.1 that want to give this a try.

Thanks grainysand!

Grabbed it from right here, courtesy of Daneshm90.

You shouldn't need root for it. Just download, install, and enable in Settings -> Keyboard. :) And yes, it's really a multi-touch keyboard.

You need to have "non-market sources" enabled in your application settings. You can install the file with any file manager, such as Astro.

Report back with your experiences! Also, apparently the vibrate when key pressed feature doesn't work.

Hmm. I wanted this as soon as I saw it in the Droid X videos. I wonder what it would take to make it 2.2 compatible.

works on Incredible for those interested.
found a bug. when you hit the button to go to the symbols, right in the middle it should have & but has &amp

just tried on moto droid stock 2.1 works fine except that bug posted earlier instead of the & symbol it shows &amp. other than that been using for 2 hrs now and no issues

Pretty cool but the multi-touch doesn't seem to work for me if the "zones" are too close together. E.g, if I hold my thumb on the Shift key, pressing Q, W, A, S, or Z with another finger doesn't work.

There are couple more bugs I found.
I am running a non rooted 2.1 Droid and I discovered I have a "go" button instead of tab, and a ".com" button instead of the voice to text mic button.

While nice, the mic button I could live without but that tab button is kinda important!

Anyone else having this issue?

I'm stock droid 2.1 and in the browser i have the go and .com button. Not sure about tab... haven't noticed it missing from where it should be.

Now... if we can only get this feature:
Issue 7037 - android - Different virtual keyboards for landscape and portrait orientations - Project Hosting on Google Code

This would allow swype in portrait and multitouch in landscape! Go and star this!

how does this keyboard compare to smart keyboard pro? thats what im running and i really like it

edit: i would check myself but im on froyo :(

Like: When using the physical keyboard, it now shows your typos and autocorrects words at the bottom.

Dislike: Not a biggie, but I wish it was dark themed keyboard.

How do I install this?, I am sorry for being a noob.
Do I download it on my PC first?, and move it to
my phone, or do I download it right on my phone?

Thanks

Right and I can clearly pick out the advantages for that in the browser, but I don't understand the point of having it for the keyboard... so now you can press one key while holding another?? When will that ever be logically useful? Anyway correct me if I'm wrong that's why I've asked...

it makes typing fast a lot easier. it will recognize both key presses so it can keep up with the fastest typer. where as a non-multitouch would only recognize one of the keys.

So I went to install this KB, but noticed that it's going to "replace existing software" (or something to that effect). Is this replacing the default? If so, can I go back to what I have now if I don't like it?
