I think you're unlucky, rather than everyone with a functional phone being extraordinarily fortunate. If everyone was returning 3 phones, Motorola would have gone bankrupt on this phone.
Of the people I currently know with Droid X's, only one is satisfied (but he lives in VA, not DC), and a number are on second units.
As I mentioned, this latest refurb lasted less than 2 months before the token screen damage set back in. It's a known issue with the battery, and despite reports on these boards, I have yet to encounter a single Droid X that doesn't exhibit battery/screen complication symptoms. Everything from the white spot, to screen rippling with light pressure on the back of the phone.
For most consumer electronics, if you can't sustain a <10% return rate, you're going to be losing money on it.
Not to nitpick, but are we talking
returns (for refunds) or replacements with refurbs?
Also, many people don't notice the screen issue, or simply don't feel that having a crappy screen is reason enough to try to trade the phone for a new one (which I know have learned will develop identical issues).
I just dumped LauncherPro. It tends to slow down my boot, and almost none of my widgets work properly with it. They all jam up, ScoreCenter being the worst offender. These issues do not occur on the default "home" interface.
I have learned, however, that my Pandora issues have more to do with Pandora, which is now simply overloaded with ads. Half-page ads, ticker ads, ads between songs, ads that pop up as soon as you close other ads, ads you have to click through to get to the opening interface screen. So many that the app simply cannot function outside of a strong 3G area.
I can say that I will never consider buying a Motorola phone ever again. That's the only piece of advice I gave my sister, and she bought a Bionic, which as far as I can tell is a 3rd generation Droid X. Good luck to her.
