Since when did a "bright spot" that almost no one can tell might be there considered a design defect?
It's a "defect" because it's permanent screen damage.

It's a "design defect" because it happens on almost every single phone.

For the record, I have had my new X (third one) for 3 weeks, and a fresh bright spot is has already burned its way into my screen.

Perhaps it's the first generation batteries. Too much heat.

I have had my phone since December of 2010 and don't have any of those problems. My phone runs pretty smooth. It has never restarted on its own. It does get hot when I play certain games for extended periods of time. I do not have the white mark where the unlock swipes as you do. I've never had to replace my phone. I use my data daily on the way to work in 1x mode.

I use a 3200 mAH battery with a trident cyclops case and I charge my phone 2 -3 times a day, so its not because I am a lite user.

I hear you though, I would hate my phone too with all the problems you have described. Maybe I am just lucky, I don't know.

I love my droid x and plan to hang on until I can use my upgrade to purchase my next phone. I wold say at this point, this is the best phone I have ever used.

I really don't know how any of you can say this phone "revolutionized your lifestyle" when I can't even get 1 in 3 units to work as advertised. Y'all are lucky.

My new refurb is just as big a POS as the other two I owned. Screen burn within 1 month. Regular overheating. As I type, the phone lays in front of me with its battery out. Why? Because I'm troubleshooting Pandora, which can't even get to the first song when opened even though I am in a strong 3G area. The site suggests totally shutting down your phone in these situations.

I'd be halfway through my run right now. Instead, I'm waiting for my Android desktop to repopulate. Next comes the 2-3 minute struggle to connect my headphones (by the same company, btw), a brief 3-15 second delay while my phone figures out that there ARE indeed items in my music subfolder, despite what it's telling me, and then, if I'm lucky, I'll get Pandora to play through half of my run before it crashes and I have to stop running and restart my phone.

Oh, and did I mention that my phone's WiFi sucks? I have 4 bars of WiFi on my MacBook. When the phone is immediately next to it on the SAME NETWORK, it pulls between 0 (as in the dot) and 2 bars, and typically flickers off and on, losing the network with regularity. I had to restart my phone three times to update "Bubble Burst" while standing in my own house with a 3G signal and WiFi network.

All this with a VERY RECENT SOFTWARE UPDATE (2 days ago?)!

Are you all on MotoBlur or something? Is this the price I pay for LauncherPro? I live in the seat of the world's most powerful nation, and yet somehow I can't go 5 hours without this thing crapping all over itself like an incontinent nursing home patient.

Y'all are lucky.

I think you're unlucky, rather than everyone with a functional phone being extraordinarily fortunate. If everyone was returning 3 phones, Motorola would have gone bankrupt on this phone.

For most consumer electronics, if you can't sustain a <10% return rate, you're going to be losing money on it.

Is this the price I pay for LauncherPro?

Nope.

Of the people I currently know with Droid X's, only one is satisfied (but he lives in VA, not DC), and a number are on second units.

As I mentioned, this latest refurb lasted less than 2 months before the token screen damage set back in. It's a known issue with the battery, and despite reports on these boards, I have yet to encounter a single Droid X that doesn't exhibit battery/screen complication symptoms. Everything from the white spot, to screen rippling with light pressure on the back of the phone.

Not to nitpick, but are we talking returns (for refunds) or replacements with refurbs?

Also, many people don't notice the screen issue, or simply don't feel that having a crappy screen is reason enough to try to trade the phone for a new one (which I know have learned will develop identical issues).

I just dumped LauncherPro. It tends to slow down my boot, and almost none of my widgets work properly with it. They all jam up, ScoreCenter being the worst offender. These issues do not occur on the default "home" interface.

I have learned, however, that my Pandora issues have more to do with Pandora, which is now simply overloaded with ads. Half-page ads, ticker ads, ads between songs, ads that pop up as soon as you close other ads, ads you have to click through to get to the opening interface screen. So many that the app simply cannot function outside of a strong 3G area.

I can say that I will never consider buying a Motorola phone ever again. That's the only piece of advice I gave my sister, and she bought a Bionic, which as far as I can tell is a 3rd generation Droid X. Good luck to her.

Well I don't live in VA never had one problem and loving my x. Wife had problems with her d2 but can't say that here. Aside from the screen which is a personal preference glad your sister has a motorola

I bought my DX used from a another member on this forum back in November 2010. I think the original owner got it on release. I haven't had any problems related to hardware on it and all software issues have been handled via ROM installations. I still love this phone.
