Droid X pre-order from Best Buy

Did you get to keep any verification of what you plunked your $50 bones down for or am I the only one who only got the gift card as my verification?

This is the downside to BB's preorder system now. Back when i preordered the Storm 1 they just charged $50- cash, credit or check, etc. I was able to get a full refund back then. When i asked about a full refund if I return the Droid X she said their policies have changed and that's why they do the gift card now which cannot be refunded if you return the phone...only the balance you pay towards the phone. This is how Best buy handles all refunds that have been purchased with gift cards. their way of making you buy in their store. I'm gonna try VZW store that morning at 9:00am and if I get one there I'll just use my $50 gift card on Droid X accessories at BB.

I was given receipts, which were stapled to my gift cards. The clerk took another copy of the receipts and stapled them to the order forms, which she kept.

I was asked to pick an appointment time on the 15th to pick up the phones and get set up. I asked if 10am (store opening) was available and she showed the appointment sheet - it was blank. So I got phones #1 and #2. :D

Don't recall my receipt mentioning pre-order. They stapled a copy of the pre-order flyer to their (and my) papers though for when I pick up.

I can verify in a bit when I am off work and can double check the receipt.

I was talking to a CSR and they told me no pre-orders. Have you heard something different?

I hope your right but I have a feeling they are going to use it for publicity. They are propping it as a iPhone 4g competitor so they may want to make it look like Android phones are just as popular. Some pictures of long line with customers waiting for the Dx lunch certainly wouldn't hurt Android sales. The only reason I'm going to the VW store is to make returning my Incredible easier. I was told they could basically swap it out at not cost and I wouldn't have to send it back since I bought it online. That's when I asked if I could get on a list to makes sure I got one and was told no preorders this time. She even meationed they had done it with the Droid and Dinc but wasn't going to this time.

Key words being "at this time". They wouldn't do it this early anyway. I'm willing to bet that they'll open preorders within the next few weeks. If nothing else, preorders allow them to gauge how well the phone will sell and prepare for the demand.

If VW does have preorders can you make it so you do store pick or is it be mail order only?
 
This phone looks awesome and I really want to preorder it but.....that thing is huge and I'm not sure how it's gonna do in pockets (specifically jean pockets) with that hump near the top. I can see how it would be easy to get out of your pocket by grabbing onto the hump and pulling (that just sounds wrong). I might wait until it's out and grab one from verizon the day of. Hopefully they won't have availability issues like the incredible is having since Motorola has done this before

So where did it say "at this time" ? I read it as "this time" . But man I'm with you I hope they do but as of now they say no. Since you've done this before :D Do you know if pre orders can be store pick ups?

Well, he got this information from a Verizon salesperson and we all know that they're the most clueless people on the planet. We usually have more knowledge about the devices they sell (or will be selling) than they do.

Like I said in a previous post: On the off chance that I'm wrong (and I really don't think I am), the absolute worst scenario is that you'll be able to buy it at midnight the day of release online and get it shipped to you overnight for free. For me, that kicks ass over waiting in line or dealing with preorder gift card BS. I have a Droid Incredible. I can wait one more day.

This is Verizon's new flagship. They have no reason not to allow preorders. They have nothing to gain from lining people up at their stores. It's not about hype. It's about the sales numbers (as demonstrated by the EVO and Sprint) and a line proves nothing. They would want to make it easier for people to buy the phone, not harder.

Also, take into account the fact that Bestbuy has to get the phones from Verizon (not Motorola) and thus proving that they are available to ship earlier than launch day. There's no way Bestbuy could prepare for the preorders otherwise. They would have to get a shipment several days in advance.
 
My receipt did say presell and I went back to get a copy made of the flyer I had to full out. Glad to say I feel way better about the thing and I'm number one in line.
 
One thing to note, I talked to two Verizon stores today and they both said they don't anticipate a shortage like with the Incredible. I wouldn't either since Moto has had a hit phone before in its time. And that there could be shortages for a week when it hits but nothing long term so you're not forced to preorder.

2. Just because you don't think they have something to gain by hype doesn't mean some high paid marketing shmuck hasn't convinced some other high paid management shmuck otherwise:D It wouldn't be the first time:eek:

3. How do you know BB gets their phones from VW and not Moto?

4. Of course they have them ready to go way b4 the 15th it doesn't have any bearing on if there will be pre orders.

Im just waiting until launch day and will go pick one up in verizon store as I have been told Motorola has supplied Verizon with plenty so there wont be any shortage unlike the Incredible
 
Got my pre order from BB this evening. was #6 on the list at that store. and I live in a very touristy area so didn't expect that many people to pre order.

Did the same last year when the Droid came out. pre ordered it, then on release day, went in at 11:45, came walking out at 11:53. Told the guy to just ring me up, don't bother activating it as I already know how to do it myself.

I haven't done it personally, but from all the videos and reviews I've seen/read, it seems like a fast process.

If it's the same as past flagship phone releases from other carriers, then BB will be making appointments and the activation should just take as long as it would on a regular day if there are no server issues. Even the iPhone preorders at BestBuy was much better than going to an Apple store on launch day.
