Root Droid X wifi hotspot (rooted) vs Droid wireless tether (rooted)

I have a Moto Droid that is rooted and have been using the wireless tether option to connect my laptop to it.

I was thinking about upgrading to a Droid X and was wondering if it would have better wireless tethering capabilities since it was actually designed to broadcast a wireless tether bubble.

My Moto Droid will broadcast about 200-300 ft. but I read the Droid X only has a 50 ft. radius.

Thoughts or comments?

I would assume that the X would be a better hotspot because it has better hardware. I don't know anything about the range, but why would you need a hotspot if you're 200 ft away?

I have an old computer in my workshop that I stream Pandora on.

I am assuming the rooted droid X would still allow me to wireless tether without issue correct?

Yea, wireless tethering works fine, but might I ask why you don't just stream it on your phone?

Normally at the end of the day my batteries are about shot so I place the phone on the cradle to charge then I go out to the shop. I don't need to take calls out there or be disturbed or anything and I already had a computer out there with a wireless card in it and have it tied into my shop sound system so just utilized existing stuff.

Every time I take phone to shop I end up answering txt's, calls and never get anything done.

My biggest concern is that they somehow eliminated or diminished the ability to wireless tether with the Droid X, maybe with some kind of security to prevent wireless tether even after ROMed. That would be a deal breaker for me.

Workshop has no power? You have no USB cable? I'd say the Droid X probably couldn't do what you're asking....
